Lakers can’t win here.
LeBron stays and they overpay for Wizards Michael Jordan.
LeBron gets dealt and they never get real value back for him commensurate with the economics that LeBron brings.

The Lakers have publicly stated they will never trade Lebron unless he's forcing it. If he's forcing it, you won't need to call the GM to find out if that's a possibility, it will be public knowledge.

32 finals appearances in team history would seem to indicate they are the MOST consistent contenders.
