Try and follow.....I get what you are saying about Hurts (and Herbert) but IF ESPN wanted to I am 100% sure they could have fans talking him up like a first rounder. Would only take some highlights and a Kiper mock with him in the teens to get fans thinking he is 1st round material and a perfect fit in today's NFL with mobile QBs.

We all saw Herbert was clearly one of the most gifted passers? How many of us do you think saw him play more than a few full games if even that much? Saw even one second of his game film? And of course no one here spoke to him or had him on the white board dissecting plays to see what he knows/sees.

No, none of this means we should not offer opinions (many are amusing), but also nothing wrong with acknowledging we don't have the first clue as even the best of the best FOs miss on QBs.

I think you may have lost your mind, honestly. You seem to think the draft is like War of the Worlds by Orson Welles, one big fake news experiment.

Yes, none of us know what individual front offices are thinking, and how each might value players differently, but remarkably, the top players identified in the media and combine seem to...be drafted in the first round every year, the only thing differing is the exact order.

Maybe you are scarred as a Browns fan and just want to believe there is no objective reality?

How are people seeing the top of the draft play out at this point?

1. Bengals - Joe Burrow QB
2. Redskins - Chase Young Edge. (Don't need him but I dont think any GM is going to pass on Young)
3. Dolphins - Tua QB
4. Giants - Jeffrey Okudah CB
5. Lions - Simmons LB/S (people are talking him down from positional value but I do think he is BPA)
6. Chargers - Andrew Thomas LT (no idea which OT but FA for QB)
7. Panthers - Love QB (swing for the fences)
8. Cardinals - Jedrick Wills RT
9. Jaguars - Wirfs OL
10. Browns - Bechton OT
11. Jets - Jeudy WR
12. Raiders - Lamb WR

Looks good.

DET...likely a trade back candidate....very high for an off the ball LB. Didn't they draft a very athletic LB a couple of yrs back...Jarrad Davis? Been a pretty good player. They might try to pair him up with Simmons.

I'm all good but thanks for your concern....I think you are just having a hard time following what I am saying. No biggie, as I'll try and make it more clear.

Never said the draft will not closely follow the reports we see on ESPN. I'm saying fans don't have the first clue other than to parrot what they hear in these reports.

Pass Defense is a pretty fatal flaw for all of the teams at the bottom. FootballOutsiders has Miami as the worst pass defense and worst pass rush. Giants 31st in pass defense. Detroit 29th in pass defense and 31st in pass rush.

Truthfully, the Lions probably want Okudah or Chase Young.

I think you're right in terms of BPA....just a little iffy on the need.

It's rumor I'm sure, maybe even a smokescreen, but there is a vibe out there that MIA has cooled on Tua and post combine starting to like Herbert...I'm not as sold on MIA moving up now...very possible DET makes that #3 pick so they will have a shot at one of the two.

Lions need defense and Simmons might be able to fill two roles on a defense. Not a terrible fit imo but secondary and dline in general are probably bigger needs. Redskins picking Chase Young is a bad fit but its like when the Texans took Clowney even though they didnt need him.

I'm guessing Lions stay put and take the CB or trade down twice. If the Dolphins give up a valuable pick for Tua, though, I think the Lions would take it.

If Miami cools on Tua then by all means they need to stay put and draft OL with their first pick and figure out QB with their other draft capital that they've gotten. Love, Herbert, and Eason all need to be in a good situation to succeed. Tua is also a small dude that gets hit a lot and if they're thinking he is Teddy Bridgewater and not Drew Brees then all of a sudden they'll have options later on with a different pick because you might only see a couple of those guys go top 20. One or more of those guys will be there with the next pick.

Just hard to take these rumors seriously. These guys are like the CIA when it comes to draft, trade or FA intel. No one who matters is letting that get out...unless, as you said, it's as a smokescreen.

DET definitely needs DEF...I don't know how he ranks with Roquan Smith and Tremaine Edmunds, but top 5, you would hope he could give you some edge presence, or schemed QB pressure. IMO it's not terrible to take a superior athlete at an edge position even if you don't need him.

Speaking of...at one point WAS's #2 seem to hold a lot of interest for teams interested in Tua, namely deep draft pockets MIA...Now, post combine, if nothing else MIA still wants Tua, but is perfectly okay with Herbert, that may have killed some of the value of #2. Absent of a big haul, I fully expect WAs to take Young.

Yeah, as fans for sure, we thrive on this stuff...but they almost have to function that way keeping everything guarded about the pick. Teams only have so many formal invites with players. A few even use these to create deception. The invites offer some level of transparency with some teams, especially in terms of the position.

No doubt the rumors can make things fun for the fans. And, really, as a reporter there is no accountability so no need to even have a source. Just make it up if you want.

Funniest thing to me are when fans of a team get mad about rumors that haven't happened (and in most cases never will happen).

NFLdotcom had Roquan Smith as a 7.00 and Devin White as a 6.70 coming out and Simmons is a 7.08. He is right there in the mix for guys who should go top 10. PFF is all about positional value in their analytics and have him going #7 in their mock. Daniel Jeremiah has him #3 on his big board.

With the nature of this draft, I could see Simmons falling into the teens. Derwin James fell to #17 for some reason so...yeah...that could happen again. I do think Simmons is a combine riser, though, and its hard to see him falling past the Raiders.

I think some of the bigger name guys like Sheftler (sp) may have a source here or there before they run with something, but many have nothing. It seems like the more you're right, the more sources you get...but some jack leg out there winging it will have a tough time getting a source.

CAR @ 7...will they go QB? With Keuchley's career cut short, will they take the latest most athletic LB off the board.

Devin White...solid rookie season, but if he repeated that for the next 4 yrs is he worth a top 5 pick?

True about Shefter....I doubt he makes things up. But the source could be wrong or baseless (or both).

I think Cam in Carolina in 2020 would be weird. I think his window on the Panthers was based around being a guy that could get the tough first downs and TDs with his legs and then the defense would do its job. They tried to get talent around Cam on offense and the defense isn't there anymore and that team is a mess. Cam has been bad in the past 5 games as a Panther over 2 seasons. If I'm the Panthers, I kinda want him out. If I'm Cam, I kinda want out. My coach is gone. The best guy on the defense retired.

Tua cleared for all football activity.

He's going top 3 guaranteed.

Be interesting to see if the Redskin do a reverse RGIII.....or pull a Arizona move from last year and just take him for themselves.

Agree on Cam...new regime from ownership down, they should be thinking restart with the QB of the future....but Simmons would have to tempting to fill that void at LB.

Cam is weird almost anywhere at this point, he's no longer the physical freak at the position...but one team that should kick the tires as a back up/slash take over if needed QB...CHI...it would sure get Mitch's attention.

The only thing that can gain Mitchy attention is bank teller cashing those checks he cash’s every week from the Bears

Chicago was the first team that came to mind, too.

I'm not sure about Tua or Herbert both could be good or bad. If the Fins aren't confident in either I'd rather have them trade back for more picks. They would still end up with a good OT or player in general if they don't move too far back. Maybe they get lucky the QB's slide and they get one on the cheap....but odds are they'll have to take a shot at 5 as you only get those opportunities so often. I don't love the idea of trading up they have a lot of holes to fill.
