More on Bridgewater and the Dolphins

Miami Dolphins miss out on chance to sign Teddy Bridgewater. Bravo!

Bridgewater wanted to be paid like a true veteran NFL starter. The native Miamian’s asking price involved no sort of hometown discount. It didn’t need to, by the way. He had a standing offer to return to New Orleans.

But the Dolphins don’t believe Bridgewater is that guy. For the team, Teddy Bridgewater was not Mr. Right. The team viewed him more as Mr. Right Now.

Bridgewater must have recognized this and made the right career move to go back to the Saints.

So it was about money, business and both parties did what they thought was best for them.

Kind of hard to showcase your talent when your getting buried by the pass rush. Here's a look at where the Dolphins OL ranks after 2018 season. Really bad.

2018 NFL Offensive Line Rankings: All 32 teams' units after Week 17 | NFL Analysis | Pro Football Focus
Last year they were devastated by injuries on the oline and the idiot gase still called bombs on every other play. The combination killed Tanny. New coaches won't be as stupid its impossible to be as stupid as gase but they definitely need to focus on the oline in the draft...that we can agree on. I can't see them being as bad as last year due to this.

Turns out the Dolphins didn't want to make a financial commitment for their bridge QB.

Miami Dolphins quarterback decisions, so terrible this century, finally on right path

Grier days ago brilliantly declined to blink in contract talks with Teddy Bridgewater, and at least initial talks with Tyrod Taylor — both of whom wanted money and assurances to be Miami’s bridge quarterback to the future.

So no to the money and assurances. Understandable , they just took a $18 million cap hit for Tannehill. Also understandable they didn't get anyone signed. I LOL at the"brilliantly" part.

LOL.

My point was that Bridgewater was stupid for demanding so much. Opportunity is worth more than a few million. Just spoke to a Vikings friend of mine and he thought that after being out so long that he was stupid for not jumping on a starting position no matter the cost. Show well and he could have written his own check later...

So he should have under sold himself to have a brief window ( maybe. no assurances on that) to get slaughtered behind that crap OL, then have his job handed to the rookie they draft as their next franchise QB.
Brilliant plan you had there for Bridgewater. Simply brilliant.:rolleyes2:

How do you know that he wouldn't have shown well next year? That's right you don't but if he's confident he'd jump at it he's obviously not. Instead a no win in NO is better...that's why they said see you later. Truth is coming out now. Do you honestly believe if he sparkled that they would have invested a 1st round pick at QB next year or extended him? I believe the latter as he's only 26....but we'll never know.

It would have been a waste of money to give Teddy

Look this works out best for all involved. Dolphins need/want to rebuild quick. A cheap bridge QB is what they need, not being a good QB is even better, because then they will be picking in a spot they can draft their next( hopefully) franchise QB playing on rookie wages. For Bridgewater a better deal seems likely down the road and he’s making good back up wages as is. No need for you to get on the forum and claim he isn’t a man,he’s a coward,he’s hiding, he’s stupid he’s a idiot just because he won’t sign for cheap with the Dolphins. Good god man get a grip.

When did I say sign for cheap? Miami was offering him a fair deal and he was asking for legit starter money. If he performed well he could have had a great opportunity either in Miami or elsewhere. Wrote his ticket. So yes he's dumb!

Yes, Teddy is maybe serviceable, certainly not the type to carry a team.
How does anyone know this for all we know he's back 100% and kicks ass. He's either overestimated himself or he's scared to get hurt....or he's an idiot. Take your pick.

Yes indeed. Save that money for a FA or two down the road when the team is ready to compete for the playoffs.

Miami was offering him a fair deal
They were? Care to provide a link to this fair deal? I'm sure you have one cause you said it was fair and you won't say that without actual knowing...right?

I agree. Which is why he is in the perfect position right now.
Brees contract ends this year. Now I think he reups & when he does Bridgewater will have a choice as being the Saints security at 2nd string if injury occurs, or if a decent starting job comes about he is free to pursue it, as his contract is only for this year. he gets this year fully guaranteed which secures him for the year. He can go in any direction he likes next year unimpeded. Starter for Saints (doubtful) Back up for Saints (his if he wants it) or go to another team if he chooses. he is a man with plenty of options next year.

If he went to the dolphins. He would probably end up damaged goods next year where he might become a back up for some lesser team than the saints.

I dont think highly of Bridgewater myself. But I do think he is a strong back up QB.

It was in armondo's article link that one of you posted. Bridgewater wanted over 16 M with incentives and he's done squat the past few years....you tell me who was right. Miami walked thank goodness.

I asked for the Dolphin offer. You know the one you said was fair to Bridgewater.

Who's going to pay him as a starter next year when he hasn't played in how long??? Everyone's perception is that he's a backup what is the best way to become a starter? Take the F'in opportunity and prove it but no he wanted more money than was logical for any team. Good luck bro...
