if u want a laugh check the redskins board, they think hes nuts, and wish him good bye, like they are in good shape

browns have to be, they have such a glaring hole their that everyone is ignoring, hes again and declining, but 1041230912 times better than anything the browns have. Give him a 2 year deal and draft one next year

He was a top 25 OL last year according to PFF lol

This is a MAJOR negative for Washington. They're going to be starting a rookie QB at some point in this season, if not week 1. Williams has been a top 5 OT over the past 3 years, so this will not be an easy fix for them.

Especially after the Browns released Harrison. They need depth

He was never going to be anything more than depth this year. He was so bad last year. Williams would be a starter, no question, and could be huge for the offense's success. OT is arguably our weakest spot on the team.

He’s under contract for two more years. Skins have plenty of leverage

You think they're gonna be happy just letting $10m+ sit on their bench for the next two years? He'll be traded.

Careful what you wish for. Williams is making fair amount of money.

I thinking he looking at Trent Brown contract $66. million 36.75 guaranteed average of 16.5 per year and thinking he's worth more then Brown. These old stars all want that one last really really big contract. Want to get paid like their still in their prime and once they get their money....well it usually doesn't work out well for the team that signs them.

I'd happily pay that amount for the next two years. After that, he can find work elsewhere.

Yes what he's making now, but isn't it obvious he want more, as in more per year, more guaranteed money? You OK with that?

Does he want long term? I would give him a restructured to year deal, most of guaranteed in the first year. He would be a huge upgrade. At most you have him for the two years, wouldnt be a ton of risk

If he wanted Trent Brown guaranteed money? Or maybe a bit more? That's 36.75 by the way.
He's already scheduled to make about 29 million, doubt that the Redskins would cut him and I'm thinking he thinks he should make more then Trent. Also would think he's want more then two years guaranteed ( pretty much has that with the Redskins), pretty sure he could finish out his two years with the Redskins and make 29 million, so think more...lots more. This is what old stars do when they are nearing the end. Won't touch him myself, once he gets the money he wants the motivation is gone.

He's said his rift with Washington has nothing to do with money and everything to do with how he was treated in regards to an injury.

Yes that's what he said, however money has a way of working into the equation as a rule. We'll see how it works out.

Rumors: Redskins Trent Williams fed up with medical staff, wants to leave

Yesterday, it was revealed that Washington Redskins veteran left tackle Trent Williams had requested a trade from the Redskins, if he was not awarded a new contract more aligned with the current offensive tackle market.

Now, there’s more news on the Williams front, but it is unrelated to Williams’ contract, which still has two years remaining at an average annual value of around $13 million. The latest report is not centered on Williams’ contract, but rather his disposition with the team itself. Per Jason La Canfora, Williams is not quibbling with Washington over financials. Instead, as La Canfora’s report states, Williams is fed up with the medical staff, and the handling of his recent medical situation, and he is set on either a trade or a release.

As is the case with any report, the assertion of La Canfora must be taken with a grain of salt. But if it is true, then the argument to cut ties with Williams, either via trade or release, grows more potent. Williams, for all his dominant talent, is an aging tackle who is rumored to be at odds with Washington’s staff. In the end, it could be best for both parties if a separation occurs.

Even if his contract isn’t the central focus of the conflict, it still looms large; Williams’ contract, as he nears the age of 31, is depleting in value, and it could thin out potential trade partners, if teams either don’t have the cap, or don’t want to tie up too much money in a depreciating asset. The Redskins’ potential value gained in a trade might be stymied by this factor, and in any separation, they take on over $5 million in dead cap, unless a compromise can be met with a partner.

SNIDER: Williams sitting out lets Redskins down

Trent Williams skipped the Redskins' opening day of minicamp on Tuesday. Seems he wants more money and figures his absence might make the team become desperate after watching Ereck Flowers look awful as a fill-in.

Williams is no longer the best left tackle in football, despite coach Jay Gruden claiming as such. Age and injuries have steadily chipped away at the seven-time Pro Bowler. He hasn't played 16 games since 2013, while missing nine games over the last two seasons alone. Indeed, Williams has hobbled his way through the past five years and only played 16 games twice in nine seasons.

That's not the making of a contract extension. Williams is signed through 2020, but earning only $15 million this fall isn't enough. He wants more, given that the market has steadily increased since he agreed to a five-year deal worth $68 million in 2015.

Players should get all the money they can, but should also fulfill their contract like everyone else in America. If Williams didn't want to see others eventually make more money, he should have instead signed one-year deals. Williams chose security and a big signing bonus over staying competitive with the top salaries. It seemed a fair trade at the time, especially for someone who has been suspended over testing positive for drugs.
