Spokane with a big statement win over Kelowna last night - Kelowna is the early consensus pick as the best team in the Dub.

/Tigers with a big 6-4 win over Calgary last night, Shinky with two assists.

Tigers and Chiefs both looking really good to start the season. Maybe this is finally the year we get the Chiefs and Tigers in the WHL finals. :)

Still a long ways to go though.

This new kid the Tigers just added (Tommy Vannelli) has played very well in his short time with the team. I like the fact that Medicine Hat can compete with the larger market teams in attracting top American talent.

Griffen Reinhart will be in the lineup against Spokane. It's his first game since being sent back to Edmonton by the Islanders. The Oil Kings are in 9th place in the Eastern Conference. What impact do you think he'll have on the Oil Kings? Will he be dealt, how soon & to which team?

I said it at the time of the draft and I'll say it again, Poirier was a good pick. The kid is a surefire NHLer, IMO. You can't teach a skating stride like that.

I say he ends up as an Antoine Vermette type of player. Not bad for a late 1st.

I think the Oil Kings will be good pretty soon. Reinhart is just re-joining the team and Curtis Lazar was out to start the year.

Spokane comes back from down 2-0 in the third to beat Calgary 3-2 in a shootout tonight in the Saddledome. Spokane goes 2-1 on their first trip through the central division, beating Red Deer yesterday and dropping a decision to Edmonton on Friday. Spokane is 8-2 through 10 games, eight of which have been on the road.

Hurricanes have been struggling for several seasons and now their top scorers have up and quit the team (asking to be traded). Trouble brewing in Lethbridge (and I don't mean the House of Lethbridge brewery).

This afternoon, the Lethbridge Hurricanes announced veteran forwards Jaimen Yakubowski and Sam McKechnie are no longer with the club.

“Both players through their agents and families have requested a trade, so we have sent the players home to wait for a deal to be done” said Lethbridge Hurricanes general manager Brad Robson, in a press release.

Yakubowski and McKechnie were both drafted by the Hurricanes in the 2009 Bantam Draft and both had their best seasons in 2012-2013. In 66 games last season, Yakubowski registered 50 points (32goals, 18 assists) while McKechnie put up 43 points (26 goal, 17 assists) in 72 games.

As a team, the Hurricanes have struggled out of the gates with a record of just 1-9-0-1, and both veteran forwards have also struggled offensively, combining for just 4 points. McKechnie has one goal and two assists in nine games, while Yakubowski has just one goal and no assists in 11 games played this season.

I wonder what the politics of that is, or if they just don't want to be on shitty team

Tigers have gone three straight games without a win (one OT loss) since that nice start (lost 5-3 to Portland tonight).

Tigers appear to have righted the ship with two straight wins over Saskatoon and Prince Albert (Hunter Shinkaruk has missed the last couple of games with some kind of hip injury)
