Perhaps. I do agree that most teams were trying to set themselves up to get Lebron, but Riley knew from the Olympics because that's when Lebron, Wade and Bosh all talked. I'm sure Wade went back to Riley with that info.

I just think that there are unofficial things done. Signals get sent in ways that are impossible or near impossible to prove. Teams and agents have ways letting each other know about their interest or lack thereof.

Oh there's definitely signals. That's where all these reports come from to begin with. But its typically nothing concrete enough to where a team would know for sure they have a guy. It's mostly just stuff to let each party know that the other side would be open to a meeting once July 1 comes around. Like I wouldn't expect a team to dramatically alter their draft plans on it mostly because the draft is a 100% certainty. FA always carries a risk.

That's absolutely correct, TJF12. Shopson has a tendency miss things from time-to-time.

Behind the scenes deals get you into a lot of trouble. See: Timberwolves, Minnesota.

It's highly unlikely any behind-the-scenes deals get made this summer. Everyone will be overspending to get players locked up before the salary cap and luxury tax thresholds start jumping next year.

I DON'T EITHER! LOL

I just question if he'll ever be healthy for a full season. Not very good defensively... but probably one of the most efficient centers on offense.

This is the reason, along with his mammoth contract, you'll draft Okafor. I love Pek, he just can't stay healthy.

Nope nope nope nope nope! I would not be happy with that at all.

We already have a future PG prospect in Clarkson, and despite objections, the team is most likely going after Rondo too. I would hate to see either Clarkson or our #2 pick to be THIRD choice PG when we clearly need a big guy like Okafor or Towns!

His strength is at the SG! Which would fit perfect.

Could be wrong, but I think he's playing off of a point that I made earlier. I think that if the Lakers take Russell, it means that they have a "behind the scenes" deal in place for one of the FA bigs or at least have been given a very strong signal that they have a great chance

THIS!

Yea, TJF12, what I was getting at is we don't have to take a SG at 2 when guys like Harvey is available in the second round. Frees us up to take one of the bigs of whom whoever Minnesota doesn't select.

Oh. Okay, I thought you were suggesting they take one of those guys with the #2 pick. Those guys are good, but if the Lakers feel confident that they can land another big via FA, I'd have no issue if they took Russell with the #2 pick. Some are saying he's Steph Curry level special. They could still take one of those guys with the later pick. DePaula sounds like he could be a Michael Cooper type defender off the bench, Harvey could be instant points off the bench.

Yep, all those options are in play and it should be an interesting draft come the end of the month.

Okafor would be a good fit for the Lakers too. His offensive game is NBA ready and as he's still young his D can only get better under B.Scott.
