This is why Kelly left. He had gotten basically perfect at ND and it still wasn't good enough. It’s definitely a ceiling. Especially with the whole no conference thing.

I sort of agree I feel because of the academic standards being higher than the NCAA standards schools like Stanford, ND, Vanderbilt etc will never win a national championship they just can't get enough talent. But that's okay these young men still get a good educationThis is why Kelly left. He had gotten basically perfect at ND and it still wasn't good enough.
Never happened before but a first time for everything. Kelly will go down as the best Notre Dame coach to never win a national title. When was the last time or has there ever been a time when a coach left ND in a circumstance other than being fired or retired???
He already has!Never happened before but a first time for everything. Kelly will go down as the best Notre Dame coach to never win a national title.
I'm guessing the next guy hopeful wins a national title. He already has!
I’ve never understood the argument. Is it tougher, sure but it isn’t like the top 100 college football players are retarded. Even with the “higher academic” standards you don’t have to be a brain surgeon to get into Notre Dame on an athletic scholarship.I sort of agree I feel because of the academic standards being higher than the NCAA standards schools like Stanford, ND, Vanderbilt etc will never win a national championship they just can't get enough talent. Hold my beer.I'm actually surprised as hell about this one..........
To get an athletic scholarship the requirements are higher than the NCAA standard, all I am saying. and because of they lose out on some talent.I’ve never understood the argument. It’s not about “getting in”. It’s about the academic rigor for 4 years. Even “joke” majors like Cinema and Film Studies at Notre Dame have classes that require 4-5 papers each semester. People are like water and choose the path of least resistance. ND doesn’t offer Rocks for Jocks curriculum. At the same time, it’s not like other universities are lacking if a player wants a serious education. These football factories offer both paths. ND pretty much only presents one. That’s what makes it more difficult to recruit to ND. Now work in the reality that the glut of prospects are located in the South now. ND has cold winters and most kids (not all) choose to go to school in their home region. There are a number of factors. It’s not an impossible condition. It just takes extraordinary effort.I’ve never understood the argument. Is it tougher, sure but it isn’t like the top 100 college football players are retarded. UVA fans always squawk about this but they do kind of have a point. A couple examples:It’s not about “getting in”. It’s about the academic rigor for 4 years. Stanford is a tougher school to get into and has higher academic standards and proves you wrong. Don’t recruit retards, it is that simple. Alabama and Clemson can’t recruit retards either. People need to quit pretending Notre Dame or any P5 school is an Ivy League school when it comes to their athletes. It’s not about “getting in”. It’s about the academic rigor for 4 years. ND made this decision not Luke FickellLuke Fickell is a once in a lifetime coach. More-so a man. He refuses to abandon his kids (players).
Take more notes Brian Kelly (any other $ coach for that matter).
This seems to happen to Notre dame with every coach. They get them for a while. The coach starts doin a good job. Then moves on. It’s like ND is a stepping stone for coaches
By the time they pick Marcus Freeman will be the coach no interim tag will be applicable.Don't begrudge Kelly for leaving for both the money and chance to win.
Why could he not have waited until next week. He owed the players that much. And I just read an article that even if Michigan and Alabama lose they will still not get because the committee will just not let a team with an interim coach be in the playoff. But we will see.
In a perfect world for ND fans, Michigan, Alabama and OK State lose and ND wins the National Championship. And of course, he would not get the ring he so desperately wants.
They don’t have an interim coach anymore. Marcus Freeman is their head coach and will coach out the rest of the season. The committee has no right to hold that against ND.Don't begrudge Kelly for leaving for both the money and chance to win.

And they wouldn't have. No one with half a brain (or not searching for clicks) would even suggest a thing. They don’t have an interim coach anymore. Marcus Freeman is their head coach and will coach out the rest of the season. The committee has no right to hold that against ND.
It’s in the committee’s by laws. And they wouldn't have. No one with half a brain (or not searching for clicks) would even suggest a thing.
