I heard that the Yankees will let Mariano play CF for an inning this weekend in Houston. The hope is that they put him in CF in the bottom of the 8th and then he closes the game out in the 9th.

They would have let him do it at Yankee Stadium, but they were playing Tampa and the game had playoff implications. I guess it was just the rest of the team that decided to lay down for Tampa.

As far as the Rangers go: if they don't make it, Jon Daniels needs to take some heat. Everybody wants to blame Washington but Daniels hasn't done shit recently to build a better team. They've lost good players and added very little. That's on the GM.

I don't debate "greatest specialist reliever ever" comments, because those are no doubt accurate, but this has been the longest fucking ride into the sunset since Clinton left the White House.

40 years from now my grandkids might ask me if I ever saw him play, and I'll go "yeah...what about it?"

Or they likely won't give a shit. I never once asked either of my grandfathers if they saw so-and-so play.

While I agree he should have done more, wasn't much to do. He could have given up Profar and the rest of the farm for J Upton, but other than that no one would talk. He got the best pitcher at the deadline and got a RF bat for very little. I also don't blame Wash though. Considering the garbage going on with this team in the offseason and through the year, he did ok. You lose your two power hitters as well as the clubhouse leader yet still are in the race going into September? You are pretty much forced to play David Murphy every other day? Your rotation is killed by injuries all year? We were still in it at the end.

I think Wash and Jon are safe, but we need to cut a lot of crap from the team and get some replacements in, even if it means selling the young guys.
