From Evan Drellich:

Diamond carried 12 MLB teams in 2024. Three — Cleveland, Texas and Minnesota — were on 1-year deals.

But 9 other teams were under contract for 2025: Anaheim, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Detroit, Kansas City, Miami, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Tampa Bay.

Diamond only wants Atlanta.

seems logical, but i'd rather fill the pen with proven reliever arms and see Leiter continue his starter development at AAA.

spend the money on relievers like Scott, Estevez, Yarbrough
Yeah, we haven't developed enough starters to cast them to the pen prematurely.

The Diamondbacks owner has publicly said he hopes Jordan Montgomery doesn't use his option. He doesn't want Montgomery back.

Maybe he will pick up the option and we can trade someone like Ornelas to them for Montgomery, and get Arizona to pay part of the contract.

The Rangers affiliate, the Hickory Crawdads are auctioning off jerseys to raise money for the Red Cross to help western North Carolina as they recover from Helene.

From Alden Gonzalez:

11 MLB teams — all but the Braves — are in danger of losing their RSNs as part of Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy.

From Texas Rangers PR:

Congratulations to RHP Jack Leiter, who has been selected as Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Year in voting by league managers. He was also selected as a Pacific Coast League Postseason All-Star.

Leiter, 24, went 6-4 with a 3.51 ERA (30 ER/77.0 IP), 110 SO, and 35 BB in 17 G/16 GS for Round Rock in 2024. His 12.86 strikeouts per 9.0 figure (110 SO/77.0 IP) led the PCL (min. 70.0 IP) and was the highest mark by a Rangers farmhand at the Triple-A level since at least 2006.

The right-hander was originally selected with the 2nd overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt University. A 2024 Major League debutant for Texas (9 G/6 GS), Leiter is currently tabbed as the 4th-best prospect in the Rangers organization, according to MLB Pipeline.

From Evan Drellich:

CORRECTION: Diamond has not formally dropped every team but the Braves. Technically, what it did today is drop the contracts of 2 teams: the Rays and Tigers. The 5 other teams besides Atlanta couldn't technically be dropped today, but Diamond is implying they have to renegotiate

That article is from before the trade deadline in July. They should have been sellers at the deadline.

Texas needs to either roll with a rotation next year of:
deGrom-Rocker-Bradford-Mahle-Leiter, with Dunning and Gray as depth,
or if they want to bring back Eovaldi, they should in turn trade Gray to free up some money.
I'd make a serious push to re-sign Yates given how stellar he was this year, and I would even be cool to bring back Robertson at the right price.
BUT also would sign and(or) trade for 2 more relievers that are capable of pitching in the 8th or 9th innings, as well. Let's build a loaded bullpen.
I still believe in Sborz, and Pennington looks to be a player, as well. Mark Church is another cat already on the team who could really help the pen.
Other than that, either go get one high-quality everyday hitter or sign a couple of reliable depth bats in case the big name hitters on the team don't improve next year. Also give guys like Crim, Foscue and Harris legitimate opportunities in Spring Training to compete for roster spots.
Also, either finally give Huff a shot at catcher or trade for a starting-caliber catcher to compete with Heim.

Very nice assessment.

Agreed.

I wonder if Carson Coleman will be around next year. I haven't heard any kind of update on him in months.

I really think finding a hitter in free agency and trading Gatcia might be wise.

Taveras might need to be traded as well.

I know I floated selling high on Garcia last year to land pitching

Won’t be able to do that now. Seems like a tough missed opportunity

As a Red Sox fan I know those all too well :(

From Michael Bier:

“We need Adolis [García] to bounce back, we need Jonah Heim to bounce back, we need Leody Taveras to take the next step in his development. We need a healthy Josh Jung and Evan Carter.”

Chris Young said internal upgrades are more significant than they can get anywhere else.

I was going to mention trading him after the regular season, but then we made the postseason and he was one of the heroes. That would have been a public relations catastrophe if they had traded him then. Whether it is selling low or not, the time may be upon us to trade him.

Does anyone know why the Tigers are throwing a bullpen game today?
