Maybe the Braves think they can straighten Allard out like we thought with Howard.

They tried before we did
Allard developed a gopher ball with the Rangers since 2021. He didn’t have that problem with the Braves in their minor league system. His HR9 is the major thing wrong with him. Its horrible right now
and the Rangers coaching staff apparently could not fix him over the last 2 years so based on that I like the trade.

He was decent in the Minors for them so maybe they think a return trip will be good for him. If a player isn't happy where he's at his performance will usually reflect that, you have to wonder if he was unhappy in Texas???

From Jeff Wilson:

Left-hander Martin Perez is on track receive the one-year, $19.65 million qualifying offer Thursday from the Rangers after the two sides reached an impasse on talks for a contract extension.

An industry source said that the Rangers have offered Perez a two-year contract with an option for a third year. General manager Chris Young told reporters at the general manager’s meetings in Las Vegas that the qualifying offer is “a realistic consideration,” but he didn’t rule out a deal at some point.

The sides aren’t too far apart, the source said.

“Both sides want to find a mutually beneficial deal,” Young said. “When you have two parties aligned, there’s probably a way to do that.”

2 with a 3rd option is playing it a little safe, I think. They may have concerns that 2022 was an outlier/anomaly. I think he can get 3 guaranteed, and would probably choose to do that. But who knows.

Joy Hoyt had this as part of an article about how the players view this week's firings.

'“Hopefully I can stay here a couple more years and see what they got,” Pérez said."

I know some folks use the word "couple" loosely, but hopefully in this case that means Martin is looking for a 2 or maybe 3 year deal.
Okay Martin, they are giving you a chance to stay here "a couple more years."

From MLB Trade Rumors:

At 4 PM CDT today, free agency will begin in earnest. Most importantly, that time is when free agents will be free to negotiate and sign new contracts with other clubs. It also serves as the deadline for teams to extend their outgoing players a Qualifying Offer, and for teams and players alike to make the few options decisions that remain undecided, such as those of Nick Martinez, who Dennis Lin of The Athletic notes may renegotiate his contract with San Diego, and Justin Turner. News should be expected to trickle in throughout the day leading up to 4 PM CDT, as players and teams make their final decisions and plans before the next stage of the offseason begins.
