Yep, when you don't go out and sign a closer, almost every reliever you have is a possibility for closing.
You think King is a candidate or is he in the almost category?

My candidate is a guy who does not walk batters and has good swing and miss stuff. He also has to be impervious to pressure to some degree test thrive in the moment. Maybe that narrows the candidates perhaps?

I don’t know about having a guy with a 4 era has a closer.

Me neither. I was being facetious

There is likely only a few of our relievers that could be candidates and yes it would not be bad to acquire one. Maybe some posturing

Are we sure John King makes this club?

Do we have anyone on the roster left, if we narrow the candidates as you describe?

I was hoping they would obtain a closer during the offseason. But doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

King is a possible casualty. Burke or Hernandez may be option not much else to start the year.
Not big on Barlow. Funny the one starter in the back of my mind if a guy like Dunning forces his way into the rotation is Heaney

Maybe they are feigning non interest and get someone near Spring Training

I really think the rotation is set in stone unless there is an injury.

Reality and what I consider what might be a good move are often 2 different things

I think when they picked up LeClerc's option on Nov. 9th they intended to give him the first shot at the closer role in 23'. Frankly I would have signed one in the offseason but that doesn't happen in Texas often

From Jeff Wilson:

Kennedy has a chance to make the team as a leverage reliever, and not just because he is close with Rangers general manager Chris Young and special assistant Dayton Moore from Kansas City. Another with ties to a honcho, Reyes Moronta, has a chance to be in the bullpen, too. He knows manager Bruce Bochy from their Giants days.

The Rangers also signed another ex-Royals pitcher, left-hander Danny Duffy. He’s coming off an injury and might not be ready until after the season begins, but he could have a role later in the season if he’s healthy and effective.

Here is another note from Jeff Wilson and it is one that I could see coming 4 months ago. The Rangers most likely will not consider any starter in the system as potential longterm starting pitchers in the majors unless their name is White, Leiter, Porter, or Rocker.

"The Rangers also announced a lengthy list of internal non-roster invitees, and one to keep an eye on is Kyle Cody. Young was asked about him Saturday and gave a very warm response in regards to Cody’s chances at being in the bullpen."

From mlbtraderumors.com:

From Britton’s perspective, a $9MM guarantee is a reasonable ask for a pitcher who was arguably baseball’s best reliever from 2014-20, posting elite numbers with the Orioles and Yankees. As noted by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Matt Strahm‘s two-year, $15MM deal with the Phillies seemed to throw off the market for left-handed relievers, to the point that Britton and fellow free agent southpaws Andrew Chafin and Matt Moore might still be unsigned
