How he is not? Thomas is coming off major injury which makes him a ? mark. Merri cant cover anyone and is a horrible tackler. Rambo needs more time to grow. Clemons is a proven NFL safety. How is Ryan Clark better than Clemons? Obviously the Skins are not satisfied with the current safety situation b/c they inquired bout Clark.

It's your opinion that Clemons is an improvement and better than Merriweather. I took a lot more out of OBI's clip than yours. Yours was fluff with no substance. Clemons is not good in run support and he can't cover anybody even though he has size. His own team didn't want him back at less than 1.5 mil/season.

It is very very telling that 2.7 mill is all that he got, if he is an above average S. It tells me that the so called experts didn't know what they were talking about on this one.

Washington and 30 other teams passed on him at that price. We are obviously underwhelmed at this guy and feel better with what we have got on the roster right now.

obi you are satisfied with our current safety position?

Personally no....I dont however think Clemons was the answer. He was had for cheap for a reason. He hadnt signed until now for a reason. He was only able to get a 1 year deal last year as well for a reason...and there is reason Miami is not resigning him...even at that price. You would think they would want a returning starter who knows the system...they didnt.

But thats just my opinion.

Hey...no stealing. I used the 30 team thing earlier in the thread. J/K...you can steal that.

With all due respect.....that's your opinion.

Exactly Obi! Opinions are just that, opinions. How the hell do I (or Dean ) know if Merriweather stays healthy he's not better than Clemons? Seems to me every other GM in the league opinions we're Clemons ain't that good.

merri is not a pro bowl safety anymore. The proof was in the 2013 season. He was just awful.

And Clemons has never been a Pro Bowl safety. Three weeks into FA he finally gets a deal. Not seeing as to where he is an improvement over what we currently have.

A deal worth less than 1.5 mil/season and less than .5 guaranteed. They don't come much worse than that contract for a player with an "A" grade.

That is my point it was a no risk signing. It doesn't matter when the player signs. There are still players in FA that can still help out our team. Guys like Britt, Owen daniels, and Del Punate Shark.

There is an equal amount of risk signing him as to signing Merriweather but we must have liked Merriweather more.

I agree there are still guys out there who can help us. Im just not to hurt we didnt sign Clemons. He is an ok, average safety. But no better or worse than Merriweather who already knows our defense. So its rather a push in my opinion. I know every one is all on board for massive change, but I tend to think it was actually smart to bring Merriweather back and had him down as one of the guys we needed to resign. Clemons was my plan B if we didnt resign Merriweather. Once we did, Clemons was pretty much off the radar for me. Still think we should resign Doughty, but not too sure it will happen.

like there was a big market for Merri. lol. if we don't draft a safety I think we should resign Doughty back for special teams reasons. Thomas DeCoud is still out there from ATL.

Why did there need to be a big market for him?? He knows our defense. he came for cheap, and he was not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. Sure he picked up a few penalties and a suspension. Sorry dude, but sometimes unless you have a clear upgrade, you dont change simply for the sake of saying.. .we changed.

b/c if you say he is as good as you think he is then there should of been a market for him. I cant believe you continue to defend his play from last season. Yes he was bad. I cant believe I am still talking about him. Hopefully Jimmy Ward is high on our draft list.

Dude Im not saying he is great. I am saying that he is not as bad as you want to portray. And the best way to fuck things up is to take the approach that any one could be better than what we had. Because that usually leads you to over value guys you are thinking of bringing in. Some times the best way to get better is to work with what you have until you have a replacement. Not try and force the replacement no matter what.

having a pass rush makes even a average secondary look elite and with the defensive line we have now they should be much improved

Apparently there was no market for Clemons either.
