its says the front office and coaching staff would rather have merri over Clemons. Which is ridiculous.

It seems like almost every team out there didn't want Clemons. It's hilarious that you guys don't understand his market value is just that low because he's not as good as people like to claim.

These guys do this for a living...all 32 teams do this. If Chris Clemons is as good as people on here like to think he is, about 30 of those teams could have used this cheap upgrade. Doesn't it say a lot that his own team didn't want him back at this price?

On the surface, it seems crazy to want Clark over Clemons, but at least one other team said the same thing we did.

What makes Clemons better than Merriweather also?

Clemons is younger, better in coverage, and had back to back 90 tackle seasons. Merri is known as a dirty player. There is no upside to him. But Haslett likes him so he gets a pass.

Texans sign S Chris Clemons (2 years, $2.7M; $450K guaranteed): A Grade
This is an outstanding signing for Houston. The team needed safety help after whiffing on Ed Reed last spring, and it certainly found an upgrade in Chris Clemons at a very cheap price. Clemons has been a very solid safety for the Dolphins over the past couple of seasons, especially in coverage. That's key for the Texans, who need to beat Andrew Luck to reclaim the AFC South

Great...who wrote it? Was it one of the GMs or scouts?

A player is as good as he can be paid. If the Dolphins valued Clemons, even as a backup, they would have signed him to this contract. Do you think Clemons' agent wasn't calling other teams saying...can you at least give my guy 1.5 mil/season? And all of them said no.

Madden season/franchise mode has killed the average fans logic when it comes to football. All these teams watch endless footage on players before deciding whether or not to extend interest in a player...does the average fan?

Here is a write up of what just one columnist who covers the eagles though of him....

After having watched film of Clemons from last season, it was tough to point to one or two things he did really well. He was more of a free safety than a strong safety. Clemons only spent 28.1 percent of the run snaps in the box, according to Pro Football Focus. That ranked 43rd among the 63 safeties who played at least 50 percent of their team's snaps. He was OK against the run, but did not make a lot of plays near the line of scrimmage.
Clemons was OK in coverage as well. The Dolphins played a lot with two deep safeties, and Clemons did not stand out as a ballhawk. In his five year career, he has four interceptions (and two forced fumbles).
Clemons has the size to match up against tight ends, but he didn't stand out in that respect either. Jimmy Graham ran right past him for a 43-yard touchdown when the Dolphins faced the Saints. Granted, that's the best receiving tight end in the game, but I didn't get the sense Clemons was much of a TE-stopper.
He also missed 14 tackles, per PFF, and ranked 44th in tackling efficiency.
BOTTOM LINE
I don't see Clemons as a fit. He does a lot of things at an adequate level, but there is little to suggest that he would provide the Eagles with a significant boost in any one area. In addition to the things I mentioned above, he turns 29 in September.

No one can predict the future but how do you not take the chance on this guy? With our current safety roster. Maybe we are high on Jimmy Ward. Or there is a trade up in place for one of the top two safeties in the draft. Merri, Thomas, Rambo, and Gumbs. YIKES!!!!!!!
