That's the problem right there. These games are all about profit, not competition. The question really should be, would it be a good game, not how much money can it make?

But still, it would be a good match-up, I'm not sure about doing it at Bristol, however, since it would cost a lot of money for one single game, and we know that at the end, it's about dollars and cents. But hey, for the novelty, someone might foot the bill.

good matchup......bad location

ive seen plenty of syracuse basketball games to know when too big is a problem

it doesnt matter what you did, its what your fanbase does as a whole. if you think that vtechs ticket sales are a fluke you are sadly mistaken.

Obviously. I was assuming you would see my situation in the tiny sample size available to you and extrapolate.

Yeah, because being an Alabama fan is just crazy. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to BCS titles, AP titles, SEC titles, most Bowl wins all time and being one of the most storied programs in the history of a college sport. I cant fathom being anything else for anything else seems like less to me and in many categories, it is.

the difference between tenn and all the other major programs ==> those programs actually fill their stadiums up against scrub teams too

Michigan, Penn State and who else? What other major programs have gone a stretch of only winning 5-7 games and still average about 90k a game? Can't be too many and that wasn't the point. Tennessee sells out for big games, garbage or not. We're playing Virgins Tech, not Georgia State.

we are talking about filling a stadium here cuz that what you guys says count. are games that draw only 80% capacity really better than notre dame, texas, & usc who sell out their stadiums????

of course not.

John boy, I can understand where you're coming from about Bristol not being a great venue, because I agree when the stadium is too big the atmosphere can get lost, but with that said, you don't have any fucking clue what you are talking about. This game has been talked about for 10-15 years between Hokie and Bol fans. Both blamed each other for not playing it or getting it set up. I received my email from Bristol Motor Speedway this morning with ticket prices and a questionnaire (not a vol season ticket holder so they may have received the same). Bruton Smith who owns the track is looking for 100,000 person commitment before he promises to tear up the in-field/tower. If you purchase the tickets in advance and the deal falls through, you get a refund. Talked to some of my Hokie buddies in Abbington about it already this morning and there should be no problem getting 100,000 commitments. Since you already know everything, I won't explain how badass the tailgate situation will be, because you've been there for the past 20 years like me enjoying it every March/August. You already know that there will be an estimated 100,000 who come for the party and don't even go into the track/stadium. You've got it all figured out don't ya.............

Notre Dame's stadium only holds 80,795, Tennessee's smallest crowd was 81k and that was the last game of the year against a 2-10 Kentucky after Dooley was fired... so yeah, we would've sold out every game too if our stadium only held 80k.

USC went 7-6 last season and their stadium holds 93,607, they had attendances of:
83,421
83,274
80,154
Doesn't look like they sold out every game to me. So Tennessee still averaged more than a 7 win USC team that has played in 7 BCS bowls since 2000. Tennessee hasn't even won it's conference since '98.

Texas is the only team that averaged about 100k a game, but then again, they've played in 4 BCS Bowl and a NC since '04 and haven't gone through 3 head coaches.

All of those teams have played in BCS bowls and for NC recently. Let those teams go as longs as we have with mediocre football, and their attendances will drop too.
