Volbound, I completely agree with #2. In this state, if you're not born a Vols fan, then you will most likely never become one. We just don't have the state loyalty here as the other states around us do. And it doesn't help that UT is hated by every other school in TN.

I don't get it, who else do they cheer for? Vanderbilt and Memphis? They don't really have much of a fan base do they?

I don't agree that it's done. These things are cyclical. I agree HS football is not great in Tennessee, one of the poorest in the south, but that's always been the case.

I think there is a lot of loyalty in the state for Tennessee. The introduction of Pro sports in Tennessee, NBA, NFL has ebbed some of the support. But Tennessee has a great tradition and athletes still want to attend that school.

I disagree that they were the number 2 team historically in the SEC. I go back to the 50's and 60's and LSU passed them a long time ago. When they won the nc in the 90's, they came out of nowhere.

The'll be back. Just a need to hire a few good coaches that can recruit.

Dooley at LA Tech: 17-20 .459 (12-12) .500
Dooley at UT: 13-15 .464 (4-13) .235
Total: 30-35 .462 (16-25) .390

Dooley against ranked opponents at LA Tech: 0-7
Dooley against ranked opponents at UT: 0-11
Total: 0-18

2-27 against teams with winning records

Quitting in the Second Half

Oregon, 35-0
Bama, 28-0
LSU, 21-0
Bama, 31-0
Arkansas, 28-0
Florida, 27-6

This team is mentaly weak. The minute they fall behind, they give up. And it also appears the coaches are not making proper halftime adjustments.

They cheer for whoever is good...Alabama, Florida, Georgia. There just don't seem to be as many people growing up in TN rooting for the Vols anymore. Memphis and Vanderbilt don't have large fanbases, but they both undoubtedly hate the Vols, lol. Well Memphis has a pretty large fanbase when it comes to basketball I guess.

Any to Gatlinberg last winter, and saw way more people wearing Bama gear than vols gear!

They go with winners, they are band wagon. I see more support for LSU, Florida and Bama in Nashville than TN. Granted some of them are transplant.

cheer up Vols. Even if you think your program sucks, you still have one of the best fight songs.

I know you TN fans have been down and kicked a lot but you're on the right track. You have some great receivers, Bray looks like he has the potential to be the real deal.

It would be a huge mistake to start over at this point. For what he was given, Dooley is seems to me like he has the ship pointed in the right direction.

4 qtrs and Tenn wins that game. They just played 3. Tennessee will be real good within the next year or two. I think they are definately on the right path and will probally see a good bowl game this year.

It took 2 years for Saban to start winning SEC games. He went undefeated regular season in 2008.

This TN team won't beat Florida with the talented RB core and Driskel's development next year which will be 9 straight wins in the series for Florida. I don't see TN winning a game in that series in a while which is pathetic.

Alabama will continue there series against us. Georgia as well.

We cannot beat our "rivals" anymore. I put the quotation mark because we are not really much of a rival to these teams anymore because a rival actually beats you every once in a while.

I look at it this way, how does TN stack up against Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, the teams we need to beat. Right now it doesn't look good present or in the foreseable future.

Not trying to throw salt on the wound but when fat phil left I no longer considered UT a rival.

There is sports bar just down from the tram to Ober Gatlingburg and it has more Bama stuff inside it than Vols.

Rendavous in Memphis, when you walk in the first thing you see is a statue of Coach Bryant.

It only takes the right coach, every program has down years. I was surprised when y'all hired a coach with a losing record at the FBS level, and I think your program is paying the price. A bad hire has and will certainly set your program back, but there is no reason shut the team down just yet.

^^ This

Dooley is a lame duck coach who was hired cheap because Kiffen fucked over the program bailing when he did. He will be gone soon so don't worry. His record says it all. The guy was a terrible coach at LA Tech and still is terrbile at UT.
