We will never be a top notch SEC program again and there are two reasons why:

1. Highschool Football in the state is not as good as the other state. TN doesn't have the local resources to rely on when we fall on hard times like Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Texas A&M. TN has same problems as Arkansas, Kentucky, and the entire B1G.

2. No loyalty to UT state-wide. This is another problem and it is a factor in contributing to what few prospects TN does produce going to other states. Half the population of my state routes for other teams such as Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, etc. When I lived in Alabama, I noticed that there fans where loyal even in the dark days. That is not the case here where there are so many Bama bandwagon fans now.

Tennessee, historically was the 2nd best SEC team. I don't think that is the case anymore. As a program, we have been passed by Florida and LSU and will likely be passed by Auburn, Georgia, and Texas A&M in the future. All of those schools have large local fan support and are located in a region where they can depend on local talent. TN does not have these advantages.

Haha, you know it is true.

Good news is, our state is a great state for recruiting basketball and baseball talent so there is no reason we can't be a superpower in those sports. Perhaps, Basketball is the key, get a big enough name in Basketball and it may draw recruits to us in football.

Unfortunately Iowa man, the entire B1G is at a disadvantage because there just isn't the players up north that are in the deep South, Texas, and Southern California.

wow.....Just 48 hours ago you guys were claiming you were back and ready to kick ass and take names.

Now I read the most depressing post from a sports fan.

Take it easy there bud. Your team is still good, and you guys are still very young. You hung for 3 quarters against what apparently has turned out to be a decent Florida team. That was UT and FLA first real test of the season and a few mistakes cost Tenn a chance to win. But it wasn't like Florida completely dominated that game.

Again, you guys are still very young and if I were you, I'd almost be happy that there is still growing pains and still some rocky roads during this season so your young talent, who will be eligible for the NFL, next season doesn't feel like they are great enough to make that leap and they all return for at least 1 more year.

As I was hearing talks of Tyler Bray jumping to the NFL next year, he is a good QB in college and IMO he is not ready for the NFL, but he is a young cocky fuck and if he hears from media and fans that he is NFL ready right now I have no doubt in my mind he hires an agent in the off-season and tries the league. Leaving you guys with no QB next year.

So, if he has a spotty year who cares, hopefully that means he returns next year when you guys should be much better and have a load of talent.

Right now if I were tEnnessee I would be hoping for a 8 win season, or whatever win season will keep Dooley around for at least 1 more year, because again, I think next year is when Tennessee becomes the real deal. All game except for the Oregon game of course.

Tyler Bray is a good QB but our defense sucks and we have no running game, both hallmarks to winning the SEC and National Title.

As pointed out above, we have major disadvantages compared to our SEC rivals. Yes we will beat up UK, Vandy, ACC teams, Ole Miss, maybe Mizzou but we won't be able to beat the REAL SEC teams.

Because you guys are 1 year away. Still very young.

Really it will be a few years before any SEC team is at the same level of Alabama, right now Alabama is playing at NFL caliber. They are stacked.

It took 2 years for Saban to start winning SEC games. He went undefeated regular season in 2008.

This TN team won't beat Florida with the talented RB core and Driskel's development next year which will be 9 straight wins in the series for Florida. I don't see TN winning a game in that series in a while which is pathetic.

Alabama will continue there series against us. Georgia as well.

We cannot beat our "rivals" anymore. I put the quotation mark because we are not really much of a rival to these teams anymore because a rival actually beats you every once in a while.

I look at it this way, how does TN stack up against Georgia, Alabama, and Florida, the teams we need to beat. Right now it doesn't look good present or in the foreseable future.

But the thing about any team in the SEC is.....if they get the right coach they can recruit the shit out of Florida, win a National Title, and have a chance at a short dynasty.

There's really no excuse for losing like they did last night in the second half (outscored 27-6). We have more than enough talent to compete for 4 quarters. I mean, it's the biggest home game in years, you're on national television and you are at home. This falls squarely on coaching and the players mindset. We don't make proper halftime adjustments, and when this team falls behind, they physically and mentally give up. We seen it every game last year and it happened again last night. I'm sorry, but what little faith I had in Dooley is all but gone. The sad part is, whenever Dooley gets fired, we will be right back where we were two years ago.

Penn State will recover before we will here at Tennessee.

GO VOLS!

Volbound, I completely agree with #2. In this state, if you're not born a Vols fan, then you will most likely never become one. We just don't have the state loyalty here as the other states around us do. And it doesn't help that UT is hated by every other school in TN.

I know, it's sad. But every team in the SEC will continue to beat us on the head until we start to recruit better talent and find a serious coach that can compete in this Conference. No one is going to feel sorry for us, and they'll just continue to laugh at how horrible UT has become.

dude....Penn State recieved worse than the death penalty...That program is decades away from ever returning to competition.

You have a top 25 program in the country. You just have a very hard conference you have to compete in. But Tennessee can easily be a 8-9 win team every year. And that will be enough to get you some good recruits to still a year from time to time and maybe get 11 wins and have a real shot.

Tennessee is still very young and your future looks good.

Growing pains. Tennessee will be fine. Give the defense some time to learn a new system and they'll compete.

John Chavis would have been a decent Head Coach if he could have gotten coordinators. Fulmer was unstoppable with Chavis and Cutcliffe... as soon as Cutcliffe went to Ole Miss, TN started to go down, we came back the couple of years Cutcliffe returned but then we got bad again.

We will recover before Penn State. Tennessee would do well in any other league, the problem is our rivals are Georgia, Florida, and Alabama and you have to be a national title contender to compete with those 3 teams at this moment.

Things are going exactly as planned. I warned you all that Dooley is a UGA plant at Tennessee whose sole purpose is to destroy the program. Why on earth would any school hire the son of a major rival?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 5 years Dooley will be working at UGA.
