I don't see how anyone can say he's great.

As far as his expectations, yes I think he's been great. He's improved as a WR, still with the dropsies, but shown to stretch the field. As a returner, opposing STs are taking precaution against us from time to time. He can take it back to the house so why throw that out?

If you feel he's been decent fine.

Well, if we're speaking to expectations then Alex Smith has been great this year.

Unfortunately, there's no handicap in football. Expectations of a player don't really matter. What matters is how he performs on the field. His performance, whether as a WR, a RS, or a combination of the 2, has not been great.

But for 3rd/4th option at WR? I understand he's starting more or seeing more looks due to the injuries to Edwards and Morgan, but for a 3rd/4th option at WR? not expecting Mike Wallace production from there.

keep in mind, i am in favor of getting KW moved up the depth chart.

What does he do well? If he's worth keeping, there must be something he does well as a WR.

If you're looking at him as a RS, he should do something very well in that aspect.

I don't see it at all.

We can get exactly what we get out of Ted Ginn for league minimum. We can upgrade at that position quite easily.

He's our best deep threat due to his speed and ATM, with KW one of our only WRs to be able to break it for distance.

He is being paid rather cheaply already... if he asks for a big pay, then no sir.

Well, we only have 3 healthy WRs right now, so that really doesn't say anything.

It also completely avoids the question. What does he do well?

I would contend he's not a great deep threat since he DOESN'T CATCH THE BALL.

He's our fastest WR. I also don't believe for a second he's able to break one for the distance. He might be more able to do so than Morgan (a healthy Morgan), but Edwards, Crabtree and Williams are all bigger threats to score, as are Davis and Walker.

How many times has Ginn caught a pass and you thought he might score?

Hmmmmm.... well said Imac. When breaking it down, I think I would agree- Williams can do the same thing for a lesser price. Still though- if we could re-sign Teddy on the cheap, I'd be into. He's still a deep threat and he was almost single-handedly responsible for winning the Seattle game.

I like what you said 3- 800,000 sounds beautiful.

Deep threat= just that- a threat. Even if he doesn't make the catch, the defense has to account for his speed.

It's not a threat if he doesn't catch the ball.

If running in a straight line with good speed qualifies one as a deep threat, then they're a dime a dozen and we don't need Ginn.

My point is that the defense still has to account for him. However, I agree that there are other players that have that speed AND have good hands.

If I were a defense attorney- exhibit A is that Seattle game. Not sure if we would have won that game without Ginn Jr.- that's one reason for me wanting to re-sign him on the cheap. I dig Williams, but he seems to be injury-prone.

If it's simply having a fast guy then that argument doesn't work for Ginn. There are lots of other fast guys that can be your deep threat if that's all you want. Oakland has 14 of them. They're not hard to find.

The Seattle game is pretty weak evidence. I'd simply cite the other 27 games he's played for us where he's done essentially nothing.

As for the Seattle game, we were winning at the time of both returns. Neither wa a game clincher. Particularly the second one.

I'll specifically cite the Ravens game where he dropped a that him in in the chest that would have converted 4th down and kept us somewhat alive there.

Well Imac, you'd make a better defense attorney than me :)

Exhibit B- the piece of shit INT that went off Ginn's hands in the redzone. Smith should only have 4 INTs.

Specific to the Seattle game, the KR was after giving up a score, but after the Ginn TD Seattle went 3 and out and punted. It was a 55 yard PR. If he had simply fair caught that ball, we were sitting 15 yards out of Akers range with 3 minutes to go and Seattle had 2 time outs left. We had a 9 point lead.

Worst case scenario is we go 3 and out and Seattle gets the ball back with around the 2 minute warning with no timeouts and has to go the length of the field to get a TD, recover an onside kick and kick a FG.

The PR was nice to watch, but hardly a necessity to win the game.

He's one of the better return guys in the sense that he's in the top half. But he's not top 10.

I'd say he is top 10. He is 9th in KR yards with less returns than any of the guys above him. 10th in kick return average (when you get rid of guys with 1 return). He has 7 20+ yard punt returns, 3rd in the NFL behind Hester and Banks who have 8 such returns.

He is also 8th in 20+ yard KRs too.
