Most teams would not use a PS spot on a kicker. Its too easy to bring them in for tryouts. In our case it might be worth a shot if they think Tevechio is that good. I think Freese is a high risk high reward kicker. He has a stronger leg than I thought. I am trying to forget the shank off the upright the other night. I will need to take a closer look to see if the hold was good. Laces out!!

Luckily all the extra points in the regular season are from the two yard line, not from 33 yards out. Should make a big difference... not as if he missed a regular extra point attempt...

When hr misses a 33 yard field goal in a game that counts, I'll feel the same way.

I'd be far less upset with a missed 33 yard FG vs. a missed 16 yard extra point attempt. If he misses the odd FG, that's fine-it happens. If he makes a habit of missing them from the easily makeable range (which 33 yards certainly falls into), then we have problems.

It's all about the percentage of FG kickers. What percent of his kicks is he going to make? What is an acceptable amount for a rookie kicker to miss?

You've putting more thought into this than I am.

I don't think about acceptable levels of failure anymore. I think, "Fuck You Mayhew!"

If we're going to buck the trend and roll with a kicker on the practice squad Brandon McManus, cut today by the Giants, would be a good option. He has a huge leg, but needs practice on his consistency.

I still don't know about the merits of keeping a kicker on the PS, just food for thought is all...

No one in the history of the NFL has missed a 16 yard extra point.

That should be pretty close, right? 10 yard end zone, ball is placed at the 2 yard line, the hold is usually 4 yards behind the line (I think, could certainly be mistaken there).

That adds up to a 16 yard kick in my book. Think of it like this- a 50 yard FG isn't kicked from the 50 yard line, it's kicked from about the 36 yard line (if my math on the snap/hold distance is correct).

Actually, Its a 7 yard snap plus 10 yd endzone and about 2.5 yard line. 19.5 yards roughly. I guess they could move it up a little if they want, but its not necessary.

Gotcha. Didn't realize the hold was that far back.

Thanks for the info- I'll update my internal storage accordingly.

It's a good thing you're an English teacher.

Lol, what's your opinion on it? 36 yard line was close, but Old Lion corrected me on the snap distance, so 33 yard line should be right.

My opinion is that the two words 'kicked from' are pretty significant. I would say the 40 yard line.

Never mind- the Broncos traded for him before the Giants actually cut him, so he's not available anyhow. There goes our Super Bowl run...

Now that that post is out the way. Would love to see this during season. August means squat to me.

I was pleased to see to 53 yarders. Feel a little better about the decision.
