Hell even the most disgruntled fan Muzz offers up ideas.

I was shooting for pissed off fan, but might have to settle for disgruntled.......I use to be a grunt, so it might fit.

Jonte Green is cut? I actually liked him better than either of the other two guys drafted the same year. Thought he could be a backup for us.

Oh well -- I have a feeling Detroit is finally going to bite the bullet and use a 1st rounder next year on the CB position and if Mayhew is still the GM, he will say he was the BPA just so he doesn't go against his own mantra.

Unless Greenwood makes monster strides -- I think he will be following Green out the door. Bentley may be kept as a backup though. Just my opinion.

I can see the new regime attempting to clean out some of the Schwartz era picks. Just showing the inept job of Mayhew.

Barring some career ending injury besides maybe a tackle have no clue what offensive position they could justify picking early. I can possibly see DT taken in 1st or has to be a DB.

I pray it is not Mayhew. They took Slay for a zone CB when he's suited for this style Austin is running.

Lawson is physical press-cover corner at the line of scrimmage and fits that nickel. he has quick feet and loose hips to flip, turn and run. As far as being an outside corner full-time, I highly doubt it. He was actually one of the better corners at the Senior Bowl. he's young, has a lot to learn from the pro style and is similar to Bentley but articles I've read from the Freep, Austin has spoken highly of him.

Besides, I gotta agree with TP here in that it doesn't matter having 2 nickel backs when there is so much nickel defense run nowadays.

I like Lawson's potential far more than what Bentley has shown, which is, JMO, not a whole helluva lot.

not to single out Bentley, but he is arguably my least favorite player on the entire Lions defense. the lions fan in me wants him to have a breakout year and show huge progress. the football fan in me just doesn't see it happening though.

outside of Slay -- i think we are going to see a huge turnover at the CB position in the next two years.

I think Tavecchio is practice-squad eligible... do we hedge our bets at kicker and keep him around? I would.

You and me both. Hell -- the Darius Slay pick probably helped Austin get the DC job, as he had to find someone who would run a scheme that fit his best CB left on the roster.

Oh well -- not much we can do now. Let's just hope that Slay is capable to play the #1 CB role and doesn't get eaten alive by some of the monster WR's he is going to have to cover. I think if Slay plays well -- the Lions can go from a 6-10 to 8-8 team, to a 9-7 to 11-5 type of team.

No chance they put a kicker on the practice squad. With such a limited number of spots on the practice squad -- I don't think there is a chance for a kicker to be put on any teams PS.

If they had 12-15 spots on the PS -- I could see possibly using a spot for a kicker or punter, if you had questions at the position. I think they only have 8 spots though.

and maybe Lawson plays well enough to send Bentley's ass to the bench, say around game 3, 4 or 5 and Lawson becomes the so-called shocker of the draft. Why ? Because almost everyone on this board did a WTF, including me, when his name was announced during the draft, meanwhile bypassing SS/OLB Telvin Smith, who I thought could contribute to the team this year.

Gotta give him time. He started the 1st two games and was yanked by halftime and then didn't see action until the last 4 or 5 games. These kids need reps and a lot of them. Let's also hope Greenwood is in this same convo and that he progresses enough to take over the other outside corner spot. These two things happen and it might not be so bad with our corners. Obviously, next year we'll need to find At Least 1 really good CB maybe two.. depends on what happens this year with Slay, Bentley, Greenwood.

BTW, Look at 1st rd CB's.....Dal CB Morris Claiborne (the alleged next coming of Patrick Peterson and he came from the same college LSU, Dal has used him wrong as a zone coverage corner, 8-12 yds off the LOS, when he's clearly a press cover corner) and then look at Prince Amukamara. Both of these players have pretty much had nearly two full years playing time (Amukamara has had some injury issues) and neither one has done sheit to date. One poster in here clearly thinks that 1st rd corners are the answer to our secondary.

BIG LAR has arrived for this post and he approves of this message :suds:

U might wanna read this article about Freese... Five questions on Nate Freese with BC Interruption - Pride Of Detroit

4. The Lions used their punter as a kickoff specialist last season, but it's unclear if that will continue with the addition of Freese. How did he perform on kickoffs in college?
BC had 12 touchbacks on kicks during Nate's freshman and sophomore seasons combined when punter Ryan Quigley handled most of the kickoff duties. In contrast, Nate had 17 during his junior season alone, then upped that total to 51 last year. He went from being a guy who would kick touchbacks on about 30% to a guy blasting them on about 70%. As the guy who handled kickoffs, field goals, extra points and primarily punting, there shouldn't be any type of concern on him here.

10 kickers are on practice squads? no kidding. My apologies TP -- I really had no idea, but with the PS having so few members and teams rarely using picks on the position -- I didn't think anyone used the PS for kickers. Learn something new everyday.

I'm going to have to change my name to "Trust me I'm right except that one time" -- I wonder if that name is available:suds:

Can't tell if that's sarcasm font or not? lol

He meant there's 10 spots on the practice squad now, not that there's 10 kickers on practice squads. I've heard of kickers making it here and there, but it's pretty uncommon. Impact-wise, though, a practice squad kicker could make a significant contribution of the "starting" kicker turns out to suck. We tried to put Kickalicious on the practice squad last year, but the NFL ignored their own rules and blocked it for whatever reason- imagine being able to dump Akers mid-season and switch to Rugland? That would have been ideal, imo.

They should designate one bonus practice squad spot for a specialist- kicker, punter, or long snapper.

I guess I can take the apology back. Just looked up the PS members for all 32 teams in 2013 and no one had a kicker. I'm guessing the 10 he spoke of is the expansion of the PS team from 8 and not kickers who held PS spots.

I'm too tired to try and have a conversation. I think it is bed time.

It wasn't sarcastic. I was just tired and didn't realize he was talking about PS spots and not the number of kickers put on the practice squad.

OK -- now it really is bed time. 5:30 AM will be here quickly and I'll have to chase around a 15 month old who runs wind sprints around the house making indian sounds and bang his head off of at least a half dozen objects by noon.:yahoo:

When this Freese kid misses extra points in games that count, Im gonna hate Mayhew a little more. Hard to imagine, but it's gonna happen.

Luckily all the extra points in the regular season are from the two yard line, not from 33 yards out. Should make a big difference... not as if he missed a regular extra point attempt...
