Fernando Tatis Jr. (back) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday.
The club had been hopeful that he would be able to return to the lineup after a couple of days of rest, but that no longer appears to be the case. The star rookie shortstop did not travel with the team to Philadelphia and will undergo further tests on his ailing back on Thursday before a final determination is made. Luis Urias will continue to fill in at shortstop in his absence.

That might hurt his case, though Acuna won last year despite a late April call up and missing a month due to injury

Alonso is just another Adam Dunn type. Except Adam Dunn was 21 when he debuted instead of 24.

Really, 23 should be the cutoff age for ROTY. You're really screwing the player over if you hold them in the minors that long.

That shouldn't disqualify a player playing their rookie season though. It's not the player's fault they're being blocked by another player or a team is committing to some scrub or whatever. I can agree with putting an extra emphasis on Soroka or Tatis' stats given the significant age gap though.

And Alonso's 24, it's not like we're talking about some 27-28 year old. 24 is a pretty common age for rookie players. he was drafted in 2016.

Not sure I'd use Dunn as a comp either, Alonso doesn't strikeout as much as Dunn did but he's also way more aggressive than Dunn was.

It’s not the players fault, but it’s kind of shitty for a team if the player is ready imo. Player will be on the wrong side of 30 when he sees free agency for the first time.

Sometimes you get situations where a player like Edgar Martinez is held in the minors because that team is committing to another young 3rd baseman who just doesn't pan out. Jim Presley showed some promise in 1985-1986 but he was a pretty lousy hitter onward while Edgar continued to mash AAA (albeit in the PCL). He was also blocked at DH by Ken Phelps, who was an awfully good hitter in Seattle (145 OPS+ as a Mariner) and they had a good 1st baseman in Alvin Davis. It took 3 years of Presley hitting .238/.285/.392 for them to finally give Edgar a real chance, granted Edgar was no longer a rookie in 1990.

Soroka pitched ok. Balls were hit hard but at people. Your BP got exposed. Oh and the Dodgers may not have the ROTY this year but between Verdugo, Will Smith, Matt Beatty, Dustin May and tony Gonsolin they have an amazing group that is making an impact on an already loaded club . Keep an eye out for Gavin Lux in Sept

OK?!

Holding the Dodgers to 2 through 6 2/3 is better than ok. Had he been allowed to stay in, outcome may have been different.

Yes, the Braves bullpen is less enjoyable than diarrhea.

I watched the game and he wasn't dominant and he wasn't fooling the hitters. He had some hard hit balls go the right places at the right time and got saved by some double plays. He pitched ok. You load the bases with one out and get out of it with a ground ball it's not being dominant.

For yesterday's game, he had a 4.05 ERA and 1.50 WHIP... nothing special, no matter how you want to spin it.

OK, queers. Just sit back & watch him over the years. You’ll see....faggots.

lol. Maybe you're overvaluing the outing because he's a rookie and it was against the Dodgers. But in six and 2/3 innings he got pegged for three earned runs and he needed three double plays including once with the bases loaded. Decent but no where near what you're trying to sell.

Our pen wasn’t exposed last night. It has been exposed all year. And it was a solid, not great start for Soroka last night, but you judge a player on the body of work, not one game.

Soroka is a better pitcher, but I think Max Fried’s stuff has a better shot of success against a team like the Dodgers. Soroka is a ground ball pitcher that pitches to soft contact, doesn’t really have swing and miss stuff.

What do the upcoming years have to do with last night's game?

We're talking about how he was last night, not how he'll be years from now...nobody was talking about the next few years then you randomly bring it up for some batshit crazy reason.
