Three weeks ladies and gentlemen!

It is always interesting to find out how people came to their fandom for college sports.

Myself:

I went to Virginia Tech, as did my Dad, grandfather and about 7 other uncles and random relatives. I have been going to games since I was little and the UVA game was actually competitive. I liked it so much I went back a second time!

I did my doctorate at Pitt so sort of root for them but don't really follow them.

I spent two years at USC as an undergrad so I still root for the Cocks as well.

However the Hokies are far and away my #1!

It was absolute hell deciding, fer sure.

All of those Colleges & Universities competing for my attendance - Caltech vs MIT vs McGill vs Cambridge vs some 20 other top schools; promising a fulfilling life marked by challenge, accomplishment and probable world acclaim in pursuits at the leading edges of human endeavor...until

A delegation of professors and administrators from Michigan State popped by the family estate to present a most compelling case for attending MSU - basically: A daunting curriculum of Booze, Drugs & Sex with no emphasis on scholastic achievement (ie: ADVERTISING.)

The clincher came that very night, when a very talented adjunct professor of Applied Subliminal Persuasion named Rita looked up from her kneeling position and breathlessly offered me full charge of the school's seminal studies on Mouthwashes, Vaginal Balms and Sport Sandal Design.

Go Green!

I went to Houston. Doubt that there are many Cougars fans who didn't go to UH. Sure hope the students come out and fill the stands of our new stadium this year.

I'm sure they'll be there opening game, then be upset when UTSA wins.

University of Texas, Class of '98, however, been an Orangeblood since birth. Grandpa used the GI Bill to put himself through college at Texas after serving in WWII and have had several family members who graduated from UT as well. Although I don't remember it, I officially went to my 1st tailgate in Austin at the age of 3.

I'm the 3rd generation to attend Auburn and all my siblings and cousins went to Auburn as well and nobody really thought of going anywhere else.

What is interesting to me is both my girls are thinking of going other places:

My oldest wants to get admitted to an accelerated medical program so is looking at places like Northwestern, Penn State and Kentucky.

My youngest wants to be fighter pilot so she wants to go to the Air Force Academy or Texas A&M.

As long as it isn't Alabama I'm good.

Born and raised in Eugene. Dad went to UO. followed since childhood. I however did not go there as I chose a rather particular profession that required schooling not offered at every school across the nation. so I went to a smaller school that doesnt even have a football team.

That would certainly dampen enthusiasm. Fortunately, there is little chance of that happening. In fact, I think a 6-0 home record is far more likely.

When I was born the first thing I remember smelling was beaver......stadium. My first crap was blue and white. We beat the shit out of sPITT on the day I was born 28-0. It's always been in my blood.

3rd generation season ticket holder at UW. Everyone in my family either went there or has been a supporter in some fashion for a long time. My love for college football started back before we had a pro team in Seattle. UW WAS football for this entire region back then. Even in the early days of the Seahawks the Huskies were still a bigger deal with a more rabid fan base.

There is just something about the energy in the stadium that is different from the pros. Saturdays in the fall tailgating and watching football is like no other event.

28 losing seasons in row...built "character" OR at least a taste for alcohol. I'm still "waiting" for something better than a Fiesta Bowl win some 15 years ago.

Each new season brings a renewed hope...our messiah (Riley) has been preaching here for quite some time now.

"When will exit the bonds of the elite North and set out on a path of our own choosing?"

I ask the question EVERY September and remain patient till the day arrives.
