What we do w Stolarz if we drafted Fucale?

Is stolarz ready to be the back up ? i dont want to draft a goalie the mock drafts have us doing it and i would like to know if he is good enough to be a back up right away. If Stolarz is ready we dont need a goalie in the draft and we dont have to sign a backup.

I guess I was more or less thinking that Stolarz is our future. If that's the case, drafting Fucale doesn't make much sense w our 1st round pick? And to answer the question, Stolarz is not ready to move up. They need to start being patient w these guys. In particular, dmen.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and bet that Philly does NOT pick a goalie in the 1st.

if he follows normal trends, stolarz will probably play this year with London (OHL), and then probably 2 years with the phantoms, before he's ready to get injury-callup type time with the flyers.. if what they're saying about fucale is true, he might beat stolarz to the NHL, but only by like a year.. that is, if they both progress how they're supposed to.. which is pretty much a crap shoot to begin with

forwards pretty easy to project, quick progression to the NHL
dmen pretty hard to project, long progression to the NHL
goalies, next to impossible to project, very long progression to the NHL

at least, that's what most people seem to say :noidea:

It just seems everyone finds a good young goalie and there are a lot of them out there every year and we never have one.

all depends on your definition of young.. guys like bernier, price, crawford, and rask are all talked about as young, dynamite goalies, but they were drafted in 06, 05, 03, and 05 respectively

takes a lot of patience for teams to have that good young goalie.. the flyers SUCK at patience haha

Just a guess here, but I believe it takes a goalie about 4-5 years to get a true sense if he's going to workout. You have to figure that there will be a learning curve. By the age of mid to late twenties, possibly even 30s you should know what you really have. Some goalies peek sooner than others. It's a very difficult position to judge, more so than dmen. Just my opinion.

I will fucking explode if we draft Fucale with the 11th. I could live with him in the 2nd round, but I still think better prospects will be on the board.

For a goalie, I would like an obscure Euro. :) Luca Gracnar or Juuse Saros will do.

Don't worry, it's not happening.

ya.. i'd say there's a 35% chance they even take a dman, and a 2% chance they take a goalie in the first round

Lol. Homer said that both Schenn and Coots are untouchable.. I don't buy that.. For the right price, how can you say that? All I know is something is brewing and I'm just waiting for the pre fireworks to go soon just prior to draft day. I'm fucking stoked boys!!!!

Heh, I hope nothing is brewing. Make a good draft pick, sign a good goalie to split time with mason. Trade Mesz to fix the logjam on d.

Profit.

I'm kind of w you on this. I keep reading all this gibberage shit and getting all anxious. At the very least I want to look into some of these buyout players who will be available? Move Mesz, bring in cousin Vinny LeC and draft any of my above players a) Rasmus 2) awaz's boy Pulock or 3) Nurse. I'm fine w any of these 3.

Yep and that's why I can't completely fault the Flyers strategy as you know what you have in forwards and if you nail it you can always trade one for another area of need. You'll pay the price but at least you know the dman is nhl worthy whereas in the draft it's almost impossible to predict D and goalies. Just hard to trade guys like Couts to get what you need as you get attached!
