Why is Chi Chi getting this start? He was abysmal against the Twins last weekend. Isn't there someone in the minors we could bring up for a spot start?

Because this isn't a "spot start" situation. Chi-Chi and Nick are starters for the foreseeable future.

  • Rangers GM Jon Daniels says that the club would have interest in working out a long-term deal with outfielder Ian Desmond, as Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Though he said that he wouldn’t discuss the matter beyond acknowledging that fact, Daniels heaped praise upon the deserving All-Star. Grant argues that the time is now for Texas to try to strike a deal. That certainly won’t be easy, but as Grant notes, Desmond may have some added motivation given that he previously turned down a chance at a major payday.

A sign that Brinson may be up as a trade chip?

Sadzeck,

I think the current round of guys get one last start to prove themselves before the break

Chi Chi is in danger or being voted out in tribal council tonight if the team does not win. :)

Ehh.....they do not have a MLB CF option for next year. Brinson has been hurt a lot this season, so he'll need time in the minors next year.

Brinson, Gallo, Maz, Pro, Ortiz should only be dealt for top tier pitching...and I do not see any of that being available till winter. (if then)

Don't think he will be ready for the majors next year.

After this injury plagued season he hasn't been able to get untracked, so agreed, but I wouldn't sleep on Cordell at this point and maybe see Brinson traded

I think they'll see where Cordell/Brinson are at the end of the year before getting serious with Desmond

The corners are taken care of for the foreseeable future (Choo/Mazara), so its CF or bust

It appears the Rangers will have to make plans for their starting rotation past the trade deadline without having a verdict on enigmatic Derek Holland's ability to help them.

Holland, out since June 21 with left shoulder inflammation, still has not begun a throwing program. He will see team physician Dr. Keith Meister this weekend for a follow-up.

If Holland is medically cleared, he will start a throwing program that will gradually increase before he moves to a mound and then is likely to need multiple rehab starts if he is to return to the starting rotation. It is not feasible that all of that could happen in the three weeks before the Aug. 1 trading deadline.

Colby Lewis is already going to be out until mid- to late August with a strained lat muscle. Uncertainty over the future of two starters could force the Rangers to be more aggressive ahead of the trade deadline.

Rangers won't know when Holland might be available before Aug. 1 trade deadline; will uncertainty force their hand? | SportsDay
I actually wasn't counting on Holland to be honest with you this season.

Headed into the season the two guys I mentioned as the one's I was most worried about were Holland and DDJ. Seems my concerns we pretty well founded as this junction.
