First lesson, changed my grip.

Went to a much stronger grip and getting the shaft set deep in the pinky, feels really odd.

Also, working on moving the body forward, hip sway towards the target is between 1.5 and 2 inches, he wants me to get to 3".

Sounds easier than it is.

I took lessons on 3 different occasions over the years and the one thing I learned is that the instructor is teaching you what works for him. I improved my game on my own by moving the hands forward at address, slowing my back swing down and not swaying forward on my follow through.

Good luck!

I refuse to move to the "senior" tees.
Why not?? As I got older, my swing speed got slower as well. Playing the forward tees is my only chance to hit par 5s in 2.

One of the main reasons is I always golf with my wife.

The gold and red tees are within just a few yards of each other. She can't move forward as she gets older and it's demoralizing when it takes her two shots to get to my drive. Even though we're not competing against each other, you still want to be competitive.

The other reason is it's a short course. The whites aren't much further than the golds at some of the other courses. On those courses I'll play from the golds because they're still much longer than the reds.

It's worse when your daughter outdrives you, like my friend's does every time we go out.

Just practice today. Getting the proper hip sway towards the target, but to do it, I need to start shifting my hips before I finish my backswing.

I also need to keep my head still, I think I was letting it move towards the target. Easy fix.

Next up, more shoulder bend. Not sure why it's called that, it's more bending forward from the hips at setup. I hope that helps engage my lats more, I never feel them on the backswing.

Decades ago, the ex-wife gave me a one hour private ski lesson with the best instructor at the mountain, which I think was Killington at the time. That one hour totally changed my skiing. It became so much smoother, more fluid and so much less work. I was a good, strong skier before that, but a few little things I was doing were making it a lot harder than it had to be.

So, don't be afraid to take lessons and get some coaching.

Second lesson today. Consistently had hip sway between 2.6 and as far as 5.5 inches.

Worked on an in to out swing, had several in a row, I think I can keep on replicating that feel.

My 7 iron was averaging about 145 yds on the first lesson and today it was avg 168 yards.

I'm still not compressing the ball that much, but I am doing it a little, so I think there's more distance to come.

Practice session this Thursday, so we'll see if the lessons stick.

Don't know if it's true for you, but it has taken me a long time to make significant swing changes. The first was after my first lesson many years ago. The last was early last summer after my Spring golf stunk it up. The bad old habits just insist on creeping their way back in, especially when you're playing a competitive round.

I'm hoping I'll have incorporated what I'm trying to do by the middle of this season.

Oh, the old habits definitely come back, especially if you're playing like shit with the new changes.

One really helpful thing GolfTEC does, is they keep videos of your lesson in your account.
I can go back and review what I'm supposed to be doing and what drills to do to get back on track.

My wife will pull hers up while she's on the course.

amen to that... s'a fact of life - seems, doesn't it, that you're always at your best just before the season ends.
however...
@fknhippie doing that lesson thing sounds encouraging... adding 23 yds to his 7 iron avg is awesome.

Yeah, sometimes I get extra distance skulling the ball with my irons, too.
