Taking golf lessons....again

Golf lesson today, worked on the driver. I'm still hitting the ground first, so I really need to work on that. Hip sway toward the target is good and starting to feel normal. Getting my swing speed up a little, 94, so that's 3mph faster than last week.

Bought the Smoke driver, I'll take those 25 extra yards all day long.

Never going to bomb it as far as you young guys, but at least i can keep going off the white tees.

For me the key was remembering to tilt my lead shoulder up so I'm hitting it on the upswing

I follow us golf tv on YouTube.
It's geared towards the 50+ golfer.

It's helped me a lot.

I also cut about a half inch of my driver and the control has improved a ton. Keeping the drives in the fairway now which is nice.

I over-did it in the sims a month ago and now my leg pain is back.

Ok, another lesson under the belt.

Now we're adding in shoulder and hip bend. Lower back isn't a fan as of yet, a little tingling down the leg, hopefully it gets better. He wants me to have a minimum of 30 degrees and as high as 40. Currently, I'm at 22 degrees.

At least it's a set-up thought and not another one in the backswing.

We talked about ground force, but I guess I'm not ready for that yet...if ever.

Back from another lesson. Comfortable with the hip bend/forward lean, whatever you want to call it.

Hitting the ball cleaner, actually had a 160 carry with my 7 iron, but only once, had several with over 150 carry...getting closer to my goal.

However, a lot of shots went left, my club face was closed a few degrees at contact.

The cause, not enough hip sway towards the target...fuck...I was doing so well with that.

Now that I have more bend at address, I don't have the same feeling on my lead side that lets me know I'm getting the proper movement towards the target.

Now that I know that it should be an easy fix. The instructor is also going to make both measurements visible on the screen which will also help me to correct the problem

not enough hip sway

Maybe I'm missing something. You're controlling left right, fade draw, push pull by swaying your hips toward the target? I've always tried to resist any lateral hip movement. Hip rotation is another thing but not rotating around your center can lead to all sorts of problems.

I need to move my hips a little lateral towards the target, so I move my low point on the downswing in front of the ball while keeping my head still.

I'm nowhere near the point of fading or drawing the ball on demand.

Another lesson in the books.

Hip sway and forward bend at address is going really well. Today we worked on taking the wrist out of the swing, just did mainly punch shots, no follow through

The goal of that is to make sure there's no wrist and keeping the elbows together, had a little chicken wing going.

Still have my club face closed at impact, but improving.

Before the lesson I had some nice distance with the 7 iron, several over 170 and one in the 180's..with no follow through i was mid 150's...which is still better than I was doing before lessons.

My wife pisses me off. Over the years, I bought her 2 real nice set of clubs so she could start going with me. She's gone once!!! She keeps saying she wants me to work on her swing in our backyard and doesn't want to go to the range until her swing improves. Da Fuq??

She's probably worried people will be watching her. Will she go to the range if it's off hours?

Heck, tell her people are worried about other people watching them too.

That is exactly what she is worried about. I told her nobody cares what your swing looks like. She won't budge SMH.

You should feel pretty good that she's willing to let you teach her, most women want nothing to do with their husband's critique.

My wife will ask what she's doing wrong, before I tell her, I ask "do you really want to know?" Even when she says yes, she doesn't do it right away, she'll wait a couple of holes before she'll begrudgingly tell me I was right.

The biggest problem will self-instruction (cheap-ass me) is that you can't actually see your swing.

Maybe try taking her to one of the simulator bars? Lower stress, reasonably private bays.
