First lesson, changed my grip.

Went to a much stronger grip and getting the shaft set deep in the pinky, feels really odd.

Also, working on moving the body forward, hip sway towards the target is between 1.5 and 2 inches, he wants me to get to 3".

Sounds easier than it is.

I took lessons on 3 different occasions over the years and the one thing I learned is that the instructor is teaching you what works for him. I improved my game on my own by moving the hands forward at address, slowing my back swing down and not swaying forward on my follow through.

Good luck!

Why not?? As I got older, my swing speed got slower as well. Playing the forward tees is my only chance to hit par 5s in 2.
One of the main reasons is I always golf with my wife.

The gold and red tees are within just a few yards of each other. She can't move forward as she gets older and it's demoralizing when it takes her two shots to get to my drive. Even though we're not competing against each other, you still want to be competitive.

The other reason is it's a short course. The whites aren't much further than the golds at some of the other courses. On those courses I'll play from the golds because they're still much longer than the reds.

It's worse when your daughter outdrives you, like my friend's does every time we go out.

Just practice today. Getting the proper hip sway towards the target, but to do it, I need to start shifting my hips before I finish my backswing.

I also need to keep my head still, I think I was letting it move towards the target. Easy fix.

Next up, more shoulder bend. Not sure why it's called that, it's more bending forward from the hips at setup. I hope that helps engage my lats more, I never feel them on the backswing.

Decades ago, the ex-wife gave me a one hour private ski lesson with the best instructor at the mountain, which I think was Killington at the time. That one hour totally changed my skiing. It became so much smoother, more fluid and so much less work. I was a good, strong skier before that, but a few little things I was doing were making it a lot harder than it had to be.

So, don't be afraid to take lessons and get some coaching.
