at the World Hockey Champsionships...

"Highly skilled and fast," Yzerman wrote Tuesday night in a text message, adding Tampa Bay isn't the only team interested in the 5-foot-11, 187-pound right-handed shot.

Brunner, 26, has three goals, seven points and is plus-2 in seven games at the world championship. He had 24 goals, 60 points and was plus-17 in 45 games for Zug.

With Streit on the team one might think the Isles would be a logical choice. They have a spot available with Parenteau becoming an UFA. Logic & the Isles don't belong in the same sentence so they probably won't even make an offer.:L

Nino Niederreiter as well...

Yeah Nino had a rough year. The Isles rushed him & his confidence is at an all time low. He started the tourney on the 1st line & ended on the checking line. Now he has a strained ligament in his ankle. He's still incredably popular back home though. Chuck usually finds a way to mess things up so I won't be surprised if Brunner ends up in Tampa or somewhere else.

I haven't watched but a period of the Swiss in this tournament and didn't notice Brunner being particularly good. Interesting to see if he pans out.

On another note it's hard to ignore what Patrick Thoresen is doing in this tournament.

I wonder if he'll be approached about a return to the NHL. His stats in the K are impressive the last few years too.

Don't the Oilers own Thoresen's rights?

Oilers had put him on waivers in 2008.
Flyers picked him up, but he only played 20 games with them.
Don't think anyone still has his NHL rights at this point

Looks like the Wings have nabbed him...

The Detroit Red Wings appear to have reeled in Damien Brunner, a sought-after European unrestricted free agent.

Swiss media is reporting Brunner will sign with the Wings. Attempts to reach general manager Ken Holland by the Free Press were not immediately successful. Brunner can reach a deal any time, as he’s not associated with any NHL team at the moment, but he can’t sign until July 1.

Brunner is 26 and a star scorer in the Swiss league. He led the league in scoring with 24 goals and 36 assists in 45 games last season. He had 46 points in 40 games in 20-10-11, and 23 goals among 58 points in ‘09-10.

He’s drawn interest from numerous NHL teams including Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington, Montreal, and Philadelphia, among others.

me thinks international man of mystery Fabian Brunnstrom took some liquid paper to his birth certificate and became Damien Brunner

Brunnstrom's problem was that he peaked too early (hat trick in his very first NHL game). It was all downhill after that.
