i dont think its unfair to question the Suter signing (overpay)

I dont question the parise signing one iota ... perfect signing ... hometown guy ... skilled flashy professional hard worker ... will generate revenue ... definition of franchise player for that market imo

Yet if Suter signs with the Red Wings for 12 years and 90 milion, it is seens as business as usual and a good step to replace the legend Lidstrom.

awesome news for minnesota.. i've always said i'd avoid long term deals, but 7.5 each is pretty solid in terms of cap hits.. i think if they had split up they both could've gotten over 8 each

minnesota should have a good hockey team, it just makes sense.. and now they do (at least on paper).. congrats wild

and ouch to the pens.. offseason backfire..

IPW is still the photoshop king, but matty is certainly the heir apparent...

One thing is fo sure in the Red Wings camp; they are now left without a true #1 on d. Whether anyone considers Suter a #1 or not can be kicked around in the war rooms; but, anybody who thinks that Kronwall is a true #1, knows little about the game at this level.

The only part that's negative is the Michalek trade...and that's not really that painful of a loss. But yes, right now, this team is worse than it was to close out the year. But no, it is not worse than it was to start the year last season. We'll see what moves Shero makes. Got time. I expect a trade.

The Wild definitely have some nice prospects in guys like Charlie Coyle and Jason Zucker as well as 2012 1st round draft pick Matt Dumba. Not to mention Jared Spurgeon will be better next season. This team is definitely on the rise.

Edit: Forgot about Mikael Granlund, damn that's a deep pool of prospects.

Two things:

1) Thank god neither of them signed with Pittsburgh.

2) MAYBE NOW THOSE ASSHOLES ON THE LOCAL SPORTS RADIO WILL ACTUALLY MENTION HOCKEY FOR ONCE.

the staal trade hurts next year too, no doubt about that.. the pens were bad defensively and lost their best defensive dman and forward.

not that the flyers are better than they were last year either. no jagr, most likely no carle, and jvr for schenn just moves potential from offense to defense..

All of this focus on Suter and Parise - Zenon Konopka gets overlooked again.

All of a sudden, that Brent Burns trade with the Sharks looks a lot better for Minnesota a year later...

Last year, defensively, I would have ranked the Penguins' defensemen like this:

1. Letang
2. Niskanen
3. Engelland
3. Michalek
5. Orpik
6. Martin

Michalek was a good defender his first year here, but last year he just wasn't the same.

In any case, I anticipate them targeting Yandle in a trade, or something similar, and that would be an upgrade.
