I am not going to claim that paying the people won't make it even more top-heavy, I think that is clearly going to happen. I am saying that league parity is not valid grounds for bypassing labor law.
The reality is that the Power 5 schools all get the same amount of cash from those TV deals right now. So parity (in whatever form one calls it) exists already. You are correct - it has absolutely nothing to do with being a valid argument for the existing player system.

Going to college is not what the job is, playing football is the job.

But in order to play football you have to have a grade point average of...... so no football without the grades.

So footballers make how much compared to basketball players, baseball players? Women sports?

Each job has different qualifications, this one requiring a GPA is no different.

Student-Athlete is a made-up term by the NCAA to get out paying workmans comp to the family of an athlete that died in a game. It never existed before then and has since been used to deny basic workers rights ever since. The fact that you have bought into it as a real thing shows how effective the marketing for it has been.

As far as who could pay what and how? that is up to each university, it is how payrolls work.

Your defense for stripping basic workers rights is Alabama will get the inside track on the most talented players? Care to explain how that is a change from how it is currently?

Where you getting....workers rights....from? These are college football players not workers.

So you are saying Bama never loses a recruit to another school?

So just how does Boise State pay players, well?

So only D1 schools pay players?

When did going to college become a paycheck and your job? Don't get what you are trying to say.

So if some schools pay and some don't where do kids go to play football? So you pay everyone the same?

How is paying college athletes going to be done, how much can Troy State pay?

The whole thing makes no sense at all, it's ridiculous. Kids don't have to play football, hell if $$$$$ is a problem forget school and find a job.

Why can't these student athletes sell their own likeness to an advertiser? Costs the college nothing.

Where you getting....workers rights....from? These are college football players not workers.
Student-Athlete was a scheme hatched to get out of paying basic compensation, it's very existence came about to make sure the wife and 3 children of Ray Dennison did not get workmans comp when he was killed on the job. After it was successful it has been used to deny rights to thousands more in new and fascinating ways.

So you are saying Bama never loses a recruit to another school?
I am saying Alabama and others getting the first option at all of the elite players is not a new phenomenon that will pop up because they are getting paid. It is already the way it is.

So just how does Boise State pay players, well?
With money mostly. Money that they generate off of those very same football players they are paying.

That is totally different than a school paying players. That should be fine with everyone.

Sure, The university sells Tickets to games, Merchandise, and signs a tv deal. They take some of this money and agree to compensate those that make the tickets, merchandise, and tv deals worth anything. The unused portions of that money go towards the upkeep of facilities and marketing. Which in turn allows them to sell MORE tickets and merchandise.

Now stick with me here. At the end of the year if the athletic department made more money than they spent that is called a profit! If it does not the team folds or they bring in a new AD that knows how to balance a spreadsheet.

So how does the school put money in the pockets of the football players?

Except it isn't. The NCAA has strict rules that prohibit players from receiving any compensation that could be construed, in any way, as related to their play on the field.

Other than how I literally explained it to you in the comment you quoted? With magic pixie dust obviously.

Yes we know, the point was things need to change there. Isn't this about making changes?

You didn't talk about paying the players, how do the schools do that?
