I'm assuming that my watching Fox Sports North - or whichever network is broadcasting the away games - via GameCenter Live counts towards that total, right?

Yeah, that's a good question.

The league routes all internet traffic for GCL through a data center in Phoenix.

Amazing to see the ratings in Buffalo so high.

Imagine how high they'd be if the team didn't suck.

This is how I picture most Sabres fans this Season:

It's good to see that NBCSN is doing well nationally. This is encouraging.

Nationally, NBC Sports Network is on pace to set its record-high viewership for its NHL games. It is averaging 448,000 viewers through 27 NHL games this season. Its previous high was two years ago when it averaged 348,000 viewers during the 2010-11 season.

The Pens are beyond regional, along with many of those top teams. The Hawks aren't. I've seen Buffalo fans, Boston fans, Detroit fans, and Caps fans around these parts...and not a SINGLE Hawks fan. That'll probably change with time, but it's staggering to me the lack of reaction I get on this campus when I put on a Hawks jersey...so disappointing.

I see a surprising number of Hawks fans here in Tucson. At least one of them I know is from Chicago, though.

speaking of ratings spike. Here in the NW we rarely ever got any NHL games. But starting last year, one of our local channels picked up Nucks games and of course the playoffs was aired on NBC network and other channels...But this year, for some reason it seems NHL is always on. Either a Nucks game on our local sports channel, or on the NBC channel. So it just seems like NHL Games are a lot more accessible this year then in the past.

The hawks have one of the best looking jerseys in the league, along with the team being much better then they have been for decades, put that together with retirees and yeah jersey will sell.

A bunch of old retirees from up here move to Arizona.

Most of the folks I see are pretty young, but I guess they could be students from Chicago, or kids of transplants to the area. Hockey actually seems to be fairly well appreciated in Tucson, based on the number of jerseys, and the decent attendance at Wildcat hockey games, even though the games are slow paced and not very well played.

I'm noticing that, too. Of course, having a TV with cable this year helps...

Surprised nobody mentioned this already but the article says more than once (so probably not a typo) that there are only 22 US based teams. Am I missing something?

I think what they said was there were 22 US markets that they were able to extract viewership numbers from.

this got missed

In Canada, Sportsnet holds regional broadcast rights to five of the country’s seven NHL clubs. Four of those teams have seen an increase in viewership through mid-March, according to BBM Canada: Toronto is averaging 860,200 (up 14 percent compared with last season), Edmonton’s average is 265,600 (up 35 percent), Ottawa is averaging 250,100 (up 29 percent) and Calgary’s 208,000 average marks an 8 percent increase. Vancouver has averaged 446,400 viewers on Sportsnet Pacific, down 2 percent from 2011-12.

only cdn team to have a decrease ... tickets on sale every gameday now (not released ticket holds) yet the team still says they are selling out

sure they are!

It seems like they always have trouble getting numbers from that market, I wonder why? What's the big deal?

You'd think they could dedicate some of that IT computing prowess from the Research Triangle to get the numbers, Boss...

Maybe the lack of left turns only leaves them unsure of what the hell is going on there.
