This is good news but not many surprises with the rankings with the exception of Detroit, I thought they were always near the top.

Geez the 4,000 viewers per game for the Panthers is terrible ! They must be losing their ass on the TV production end.

I think a big factor in the Devils/Islanders/Rangers TV ratings going up is MSG, the channel they are on, is part of Optimum/Cablevision, the cable network also owned by the Dolans. For years you could not watch any of the local hockey teams or the Knicks in HD unless you had Optimum/Cablevision.

The feed they were giving to other providers was like watching a high school game being recorded with an oldschool camcorder. I guess they struck a deal and now other providers get them in HD, so I would imagine that helps boost the ratings.

But that number is a 33.3% increase over the 3,000 from last year. It appears Colorado is the only team to decline.

Also, the ratings in Phoenix have gone way up as well. Maybe Gary was right all along...

Amazing to see the ratings in Buffalo so high.

Imagine how high they'd be if the team didn't suck.

That would explain why all of the stores in the Phoenix area ran out of TV's that were bought and delivered to the same address occupied by Bettmen and charged to the NHL's corp credit card.

Wonder how they account for restaurants and bars. R Bar and Roosters around here are PACKED on game nights.

22% increase is good, and number of households going up. Especially when you factor in that this entire season is contained in the post buckeye football time. The numbers late in the NHL season are always better because it's not competing with the local religion and Pope Urban.

There is a definite excitement in town this year. And it's a rebuild year. Wait until we're actually good.

And competing with Pittsburg and Washington...

A relief. I was worried the lockout sunk us. But we're above water still.

That's probably a contributing factor in a lot of markets, either college or NFL.

PPM's (portable/personal people meters) are supposed to account for high occupancy establishment viewing

They changed the way they define "viewers" in Phoenix > " number of legs viewing ...does not have to be animate object " (ie coffee table legs count)

Along with the assumption that real coyotes actually watch the games.

I'm assuming that my watching Fox Sports North - or whichever network is broadcasting the away games - via GameCenter Live counts towards that total, right?

Yeah, that's a good question.

when the nhl usually does it "ratings bonanza" numbers dump in the form of a "everything smells likes roses including the shit" press release prior to playoffs starting (and season ticket / ad renewal notices going out) every year I recall they segregate the super glorious eternally increasing gamecenter subscription numbers from regular tv ratings (iirc)

It would be interesting to see how many things come into play. In some boarder cities some people will watch the CBC broadcast over the US network broadcast and how are internet viewings counted (if they're counted), How does Center Ice and NHL network count?

It's probably complicated.
