7 years 60 million, bought out his arbitartion years, and 3 years of free agency

Seems like a good deal for the Cubs, I think this somewhat sets the bar for any future negotiations with Andrus

While not exactly the same type of player, I think they are close to the same quality of player

No chance Elvis gets signed for that cheap. Believe his next contract will be in the $100 million + range.

(dependent on years of course)

I agree. That's why I said I'd jump at that contract for Elvis today. Boras will be looking to break it off in a team come FA time.

I don't see the justification of going much higher than the fa portion of castros contact for Andrus, last year in the contract is worth 16 million

Cubs may not have had prospect(s) coming up that project better than Castro ... so getting him to sign an extension protects them and also protects him in case they find someone before he became an FA.

For TEX ... a question is ... before jumping into a long term deal with Andrus will TEX remember how MY's contract tied their hands in the latter years? He's tied up through 2014 ... do they wait and have Profar ML-experienced before acting long term?

If they ever intend to deal him down the road they need to consider what the annual cost is going to be for whoever they are trying to work with. Waiting may be the better move if they want to give him an extension because he will not have them over a rock.

I'd love Elvis to remain here for a long time and don't see him as susceptible to the same issues that have plagued MY ... but it has to be something that they have to consider.

I don't think there is any way that Scott Boras doesn't take Elvis through the free agent process. And I think Andrus would be crazy not to try free agency. Jeter is going to hit the wall one day soon and Elvis would be a natural replacement both as a player and as a personality in NY.

Where we are going to get bent over a barrel is if we are still contending heavily when Elvis is in the last year of his contract. If it comes trade deadline in E's final year and we are around .500 ball and 3+ games out of contention then we are going to get a haul for him in the trade market, though.

I don't think NYY can wait that long.

Jeter is in his 38yo season... in 2014 Elvis' final TEX season before FA ... Jeter will be 40yo.

I think NYY will be forced to make a move before Elvis is a FA.

Have to remember, even an 8 year deal (after this current contract) would put Elvis at 33yrs old....
Whereas Young agreed to his extension when he was what...30? and is currently 35 and on the decline.

That said, Kinsler to the OF, Elvis or Profar to 2nd...other plays SS. I'd be happy with that.

Personally, I want Elvis here for the long haul... dont just want to "let him walk" because we have Profar in waiting. Rather have both.

If anything, I see Elvis being traded during the winter. Either this winter or next...

Kinsler to the OF or even first base ... hate to lose his infield range. But if Kinsler is in LF with Beltre/Olt/Moreland covering 1b/3b/dh ... that might be fit too.

I will hate to see Andrus Go. Terrific Player and only getting better. The New TV Contract kicks in 2014 that the Rangers signed with Fox Sports SW. That could help the Rangers chances of keeping Elvis.
