Episode 3 was very good in my opinion, and has some promising leads for the future.

I'm surprised they dedicated the first two episodes to only Burnham's backstory - Saru is the only other main character of the series who was even in the first two episodes. Now that she's on the Discovery itself, there's a lot of potential in this series. CBS was stupid not to let people get this far without paying, because I'm guessing people would be a lot more interested in it now, after episode 3, than they were after just seeing episode 1.

The Discovery is a science vessel with over 300 independent scientific experiments going on it at any given time. That's not a bad basis for a series. It kind of looks like the X Files or Fringe set on a Star Trek Spaceship, with the backdrop of a war against the Klingons.

I heard a theory that this is actually a Section 31 ship, and that was pretty convincing. We'll see if that turns out to be the case, but I would love to see that. I always wished that Deep Space Nine had explored Section 31 more deeply.

Episode 10 was pretty darn good, perhaps my favorite so far....

....the evil Terran Empire of the mirror universe is generally a good source for a cool Star Trek story.

Anybody else keeping up with ST Discovery?

I enjoyed the 15 episode season 1, and so far season 2 is pretty good too (3 episodes thus far...the 4th episode streams tonight).

I like the casting of Anson Mount as Captain Pike. I enjoyed Mount as Cullen Bohannon in AMC's Hell on Wheels.

The former emperor of the mirror universe now doing undercover work for Star Fleet's clandestine Section 31 is a cool twist.

True, but Janeway let her ship get taken over too many times. If she ever makes it back to the Alpha Quadrant, she should be relieved of command.
Um, this show is old, but...

Voyager made it back, thanks in large part to Barkley.

Watching this now. About 8 eps in (Stammets just collapsed after the big showdown).

So far, my complaints with this are similar to my complaints about Picard. They have completely abandoned the camp aspect and replaced it with grit. Granted, it isn’t as gritty as the Expanse, but more on a par with BSG. I liked that DS9 was fucking hilarious. It was almost a dramedy.

all that said, I would have to give the show a thumbs up. Still better than Enterprise.

As for Burnham’s connection to Sarek and Spock, I still want more explanation, but on the surface, I think it adds some depth to Marc Leonard’s Sarek having a very hard relationship with Spock. Sarek sacrificed quite a bit to get him into the Vulcan Expeditionary Force and for Spock to turn his back on that, it had to hurt even the most logical Vulcan.

If you want campy trek-style sci fi nowadays, you have to watch The Orville. Thats why during season 1 of both shows, many people said The Orville was a truer successor to the trek mantle than Discovery

I watch Orville and agree that it is MUCH more Trek than Trek.

I watch the free first season and liked it.

Has anyone else watched this?

I watched it... I liked the first few seasons... Not saying it was great... but it was entertaining enough... Hated how it ended... and got tired of the Michael too quick...
