actually it was reverse Keenan joined Moose after Messier came. We struggled, Firings happened, then Messier convinced our Management to bring in Keenan who RIPPED that team apart. Dark Days indeed.

Ah yes, the "Dark Years", did not need a reminder of that era . I still can't believe that contract Messier signed with the Canucks back then .

it still fucking kills me that (allegedly) Gretz had agreed with McCaw to the three year deal to join the Canucks. They agreed to the terms over dinner on McCaw's yacht, and Gretz was to sign the papers first thing in the morning. George McPhee got antsy, and wanted the paperwork signed that night. He issued Gretz an ultimatum (now or never, deal is off the table in the morning). This scared Gretzky off, and he signed with St Louis instead.
Ownership was desperate for a big marketing splash over the summer (as word of 99's 'imminent' signing had leaked), so they offered Messier the same deal.

the dark years probably set us back 5 years in development of the team. jesus, we had a hell of of a core to build around at that time.... Bure, Mogilny, Naslund, Linden, ..... all blown up.

Pretty good article with Jeremy Jacobs saying how proud he is of the Bruins and what they have accomplished to date. I'm no fan of Jacobs, but he actually has some pretty nice comments in this piece.
