There is a difference between a Guru and a coach. A Guru works on Mechanics. A Coach works on reads and decisions. Stafford needs way more help with the latter. His Mechanics are not great but neither are half of the top QBs either. His decision making has sucked balls 5 of the last 6 games.

His indifference is off-putting though.

The Lions are stuck with his 91-93 million dollar salary. What are we going to do? Tell him get help or get benched?

You think a guy with the arm strength he has would do whatever it takes to get himself to the elite level. He has got to want it more than the fans!

Good for Stafford. The media has turned him into a national punching bag overnight and now they want to start offering public suggestions on how to improve him? I'd tell them to fuck off too. Talk to me when a coach offers this and he says no. Until then, this is more fuel for the TMZ crowd.

Yesh stafford has a bad stretch of games and now hes a bust at the age of 25. Suh stomps on a guy and has been the dirtiest player in the league since.

The Lions need to get a solid QB coach on staff IMO. No way no how should Stafford have 19 INTs this year and 73 for a career that spans 60 games.

His highest QB rating has been 64.4 and most of the time he is mid 50s.

For as much promise as he has shown he needs some help. And I absolutely hate that he throws side arm as much as he does. I could stomach it if he wasn't so sloppy with the ball. The Lions owe him to much and he still has a strong arm maybe the GM can wake up and invest on the #1 position on the field and get him some help.

QBR has as much relevance as a random number generator.

Very true.

Would the record of 11-20 since the 2011 playoff appearance be a more relevant and telling number? Especially on a team so filled with talent.

Brady finds a way to win, or at least get his team in a position to, each and every week. Stafford seems to find a way to lose, or put the team in a position to lose, each week.

However, it does appear that Stafford beats Brady at getting maximum value out of the McDonalds $1 menu.

I'm not making the argument for or against stafford. He hasn't been dominant and won them games. He hasn't really lost them games either, for the most part. When you look at record, you also have to look at why it is that way. How many of those losses are on Stanford's shoulders? It's not like, say, romo in clutch games, where he loses the game singlehandedly half the time, or even Peyton early in his career, where he made crucial mistakes that played a big role (and Peyton's improved significantly) in those losses. I'm not saying Stanford's been perfect or never lost games, but he's been above average, has a lot of talent, and reasonable potential. If you had to blame a single individual for each loss, how many more do you think go to Schwartz than stafford? He's been a bigger issue IMO.

Also, I don't think Detroit is that loaded with talent. Calvin's at worst the second best receiver in the league, bush is extremely explosive, but after that, how much offensive help does stafford get? There's room for improvement certainly, but I don't think he's actually lost them all that many games.

I never called him a bust. But I think we can all agree he needs to be committed to improvement.

And is another person to answer to the solution to that?

I think you probably wait to see what happens to the coaching staff before deciding that, but too many masters are hard to serve. If Detroit hires a legitimate coach with decent offensive experience, a separate QB specialist could easily be a distraction.

I like how the Stafford apologists make it seem like he's been disappointing for a few games here and there. When, in reality, we're about to close out his second consecutive disappointing season. So that's two seasons of unimpressive overpaid play, two seasons of injury and one nice season in the middle. We had better all be able to agree he needs to improve. (It's really only Stafford that needs to realize this. He hasn't yet, obviously.)

If Schwartz has pictures and keeps his job along with his staff then maybe Stafford should go out and get a second opinion. If what we all expect to happen happens then you're now talking about a THIRD opinion. Of course that's including the head coach, offensive coordinator and QB coach as 1 opinion. He didn't sound like he would ever be open to this which may be a mistake but this offseason it doesn't seem like the best idea.
