I know pitchers need their time to get ready before a season starts but these days players are making millions and don't need jobs in the off season anymore. Players are ready to go here pretty soon and starting the year a week earlier would keep the World Series in October where it belongs.
You could use those extra 7-10 extra days to also make up rained out games and not force teams to play say long blocks of games without a day off during the dog days of summer. I know the weather might be poor in some areas in March but starting in warm weather cities could cut down on some of those problems. I know Spring Training has become a money maker for teams and we all know how hard it is to get the owners to agree to a change but I believe it would be better for the game and baseball ratings should improve with a change.
A traditional DH or two would also be welcomed especially with the economy down. Fans love the traditional DH.
