My wife is gonna be stoked. For whatever reason, she hates him. I think it's the silent "T" at the end of his name and the mutton chops. Plus, she has an irrational apprehension about liking short people.

EDIT: Somebody please rep jingo for me. I'm tapped out for 24 hours. Apparently, it's been a busy morning.

Got it.

Fontenot: Hey Brian, my buddy Theriot is available. I am sure if I talk to him, he will come here.

Sabean: You think so? Sure, give him a call.

4 months later...

Sabean: Thanks for bringing in your replacement, Mike. Don't the door hitcha...

You know...as much of a disappointment the surfer has been...it's not his fault the Giants threw buckets of money his way.

This. I've never had any personal animosity to Zito. In fact I like the guy, and I think he's being a mensch about the whole thing. He didn't peep when they left him off the playoff roster, etc. Now Rowand, Molina, etc....different stories.

Just pretend his "fastball" is a knuckleball that doesn't move too much.

You know, I've actually wondered if he shouldn't just start throwing a knuckler since he gives up nothing in velocity.

I like him too. He really want to get back to a respectable level and he wants the fans to back him. He knows that if he bitches and whines that everyone would turn against him (Rowand, Molina, Tejada etc...). He is obviously working hard to find his niche again, he keeps in great shape. It's obvious that he's not just blowing things off after he got the big contract. He wants his pride back.

Zito compares to Renteria in a way. First year he was pretty awful, and ended up losing his job to Uribe his next year. He didn't complain publicly much, just kept working his way back and by the end of his time, he was a World Series hero and now a beloved Giant. Lets hope the endings are pretty similar...

Tonight's Lineup:
Pagan CF
Cabrera RF
Sandoval 3B
Posey C
Huff LF
Belt 1B
Theriot 2B
Crawford SS
Zito SP

Huff in the OF = Belt's chances getting better?

Hmmmm.....

Other than Zeets (obviously) that's about the best lineup we can realistically put out there given current health issues (Franchez). And by realistic I mean ain't no one going to bench Huff for Pill opening day.

A writer made a comment about that last week, Belt was seeing more time at first, Huff more time in LF which may be a sign of things.

Huff in the outfield still scares me though.

Yea. The "perfect" lineup would probably have Blanco in center and Pagan in Left with Belt at 1B, but this is pretty damned close to what we expect opening day.

Fonty gone means Arias is the utility guy. He actually looked pretty good when I saw him down there, and he can play second/third/short better than Fonty.

So it looks like Burriss/Theriot/Arias till Franchez gets back. This has no effect on Chez3/Belt IMO

Agreed. They aren't benching Huff for Blanco either...yet.

It's possible to envision a day early in the year when Burriss, Blanco, Pagan, and Cabrera all start. Hello Jackrabbit Express! Maybe on a day when the opposing infield defense is shaky, put pressure on them to make the plays.

Scares me too.

I dream of the day when there is nobody in the field that makes me cringe when the ball is hit his way. I was really hoping this year would be the year for The Giants to be stellar in the field...Crawford replaces Tenada, Posey replaces Whiteside, Cabrera replaces Huff/Pat.

Makes you long for the days of a Clark / Thompson / Uribe / Williams / Manwaring infield. DAYUM, that was a defensively STACKED infield...

Now, the OF with Hack and Candyman left a bit to be desired, though...
