what exactly is a Hoosier besides a person from Indiana ?... it aint an animal .. any guesses ?

Like barnacles, a thick crust of speculation has gathered over the word "Hoosier" to explain the origin of Indiana's nickname. Popular theories, diligently and often sincerely advanced, form a rich, often amusing body of folklore. Those theories include: "Who's here?" as a question to unknown visitors or to the inhabitants of a country cabin; Hussar, from the fiery European mounted troops; "Huzzah!" proclaimed after victory in a fight; Husher, a brawny man, capable of stilling opponents; Hoosa, an Indian word for corn; Hoose, an English term for a disease of cattle which gives the animals a wild sort of look; and the evergreen "Who's ear?" asked while toeing a torn-off ear lying on the bar room floor the morning after a brawl.

The best evidence, however, suggests that "Hoosier" was a term of contempt and opprobrium common in the upland South and used to denote a rustic, a bumpkin, a countryman, a roughneck, a hick or an awkward, uncouth or unskilled fellow. Although the word's derogatory meaning has faded, it can still be heard in its original sense, albeit less frequently than its cousins "Cracker" and "Redneck."

there ya go.

Giants just sealed the Padre series...

Now the Fish come into town. Nothing healthier than a serving of fish :)

GREAT SD@SF series, though. THAT was good baseball.

1.) We got beat fair and square and our 4 hrs at #2 in the division was lots of fun. We can win this division but we won't as long as our two normally lights-out relievers in Dale Thayer and Cool Hand Luke Gregerson come in on succeeding nights and throw belt-high hanging sliders. Last night I felt the same, exact way I did today. Going into the bottom of the 7th or 8th against the Giants with a one-run lead is an impending loss, not because of our setup men but because Huston Street is our closer. He is our closer for the same reason Josh Hamilton is in the 2-hole right now. Our GM vastly overpaid and can't swallow his pride and put the player where he should be playing. In 2010 we seep that series. This year, we lose 2 of 3 to a better team.

2.) Very proud of the team and very disappointed in the Giants of all teams in MLB going after Juan Guzman for what anyone would have to admit was a pretty minimal batflip after the HR. Your relievers often act the same way they look after getting outs, even worse than that fat dickhead Joba Chamberlain. But that's just "passion" ya know? That the Boche would order retaliation on Guzman of all people won't be forgotten. That was petty bullshit and I'm frankly embarrassed to see an NL West team make such a pathetic attempt at manufacturing drama.

Chuckle and call me a poor loser? Go back to #1. :suds:

Utley needs to be traded to the Orioles.

2nd Base has been a Black hole for the O's all year...

Man, that is such a shame for obvious reasons. That's the position the O's should feel they have locked up for years to come.

more from the article:

From the South "Hoosier" moved north and westward with the people into the Ohio Valley, where it was applied at first to the presumably unsophisticated inhabitants of Southern Indiana. Later it expanded to include all residents of the state and gradually lost its original, potent connotation of coarseness in manners, appearance and intellect.

Consider it Karma for screwing up Brian Roberts.

I heard Cano is looking for a contract.

There was a tweet this morning from someone quoting Jayson Werth as saying he's ready to "eat someone's face." Sound very Tyson-ish.
