When I went beach camping a couple of weeks ago this nice dude eases over and says hi. Invite him to sit down and chat. Guy ends up telling me a story about needing money and signing one of those contracts to go work in Alaska for 18 months and make a bunch of money. Leaves his wife and 6 yr old daughter, comes home every few months to see them. On the last six months of the contract he doesn't go home to save money and everything seems normal. Gets home to find out that someone else is in his apartment. WTF? Said he got home on a Saturday night and had to spend a couple of nights in a cheap motel til the office opened Monday morning to start getting answers. Finds out his wife and daughter haven't lived there in six months. Goes to the bank and she stole everything but $100. He had $100 to his name and no wife and daughter. To make a long story short, he was homeless, had to get his feet on the ground and eventually hired a PI to look for his wife and daughter. That was five years ago and he has an 11 yr old daughter he's not sure even remembers him. He said he cried himself to sleep every single night for 2 yrs and the pain was so bad he couldn't hold down basic jobs or have normal relationships for years.
