Ha! I'd take it, but I can't see another team accepting his contract when he's all but sure to be cut.

Hopefully we can get a late round pick for a guy who was going to be cut anyways!!

I wouldn't like to be in that situation.

Spencer: Would you like to trade for me?
Other team: Ok, how about player xxxxx.
Spencer: Umm, let me go check.

I'm sure they give him a price tag or guidelines on what they want, but it has to be easier for the team than the player's agent. Maybe there's a monetary trade available, as opposed to draft picks, though I bet we'd want draft picks plus his salary off our hands (I know cutting him would do this, but I don't know how much dead money there is).

They could get a late round pick for him.

Yes teams know he's going to get cut but trading him for a late round pick ensures that you get him at the cost of a pick that isn't likely to contribute much to your team.

We'll see if they can swing a next year's 7th like the Taylor Mays trade. Most likely ends up in a cut - but doesn't hurt to keep all options open.

Go ahead and name Baalke Exec of the Year for next season if he gets anything for Spencer.

I'd take basically anything. Any team that gives us anything for him must be fairly desperate. The league should know we are going to cut him anyways.

I think he is the longest tenured current 49er. I wish him well.

Brian Jennings is. Lee and Sopoaga are both tied with Spencer for the 2nd longest. Gore, Alex Smith and Snyder follow them.

Trade him to the Cowboys. Spencer would be an upgrade to their secondary. But seriously, I don't think any team will trade for him. They will just wait for the Niners to cut him and then try to sign him.

Good move by Baalke, let Spencer's agent do all the work and find a suitor. While he just sits back and takes whatever draftpick the team offers for Spencer since he was going to cut him anyway.

him or Alex.... unless Alex is not currently a niner in your statement...(which is true technically)

The longest tenured 49er is Brian Jennings.. Long snapper on special teams.. He is the only player that was on the last 49ers play off team prior to last year

"Allowing a player to seek a trade" is giving the player and his agent permission to talk to other teams about contracts. That will allow Spencer to see what the market looks like for him before he becomes a FA.

This does not mean he will be getting traded.

Teams know the we'll eventually release Spencer. No one is trading for him.
