HB Sonny. He is one of my all time greatest redskin player ever!!!. I saw him play many times in the cotton bowl and on TV. This guy was so cool when facing the blitz. Wish many of you here could have sen this and was extremely accurate under pressure. I even saw him pass with his left hand. Hope he has many more BD's.

You'd be surprised at how many of us on this board are old enough to remember :D.

He was amazing. Just wish he'd had some decent D when he played.

I have two custom McFarlane figures on my desk, Sonny and Larry Brown. My parents moved us to the Washington DC area in 1963 from Philadelphia, it seemed that Sonny followed us.

Vince died too soon and George wanted a QB that would handoff. You know Sonny wanted to throw the ball. I think if Sonny had been healthy in Super Bowl 7 there might have been a different outcome. No offense to Billy but Sonny was the better QB.

:agree: he really only had a coach with Lombardi, and that ended so tragically for all of us that love the game of football...:bawling:

A lot of us remember!! In fact there was much controversy after the trade was made sending Snead to Philly for him. He had a decent but sub par season in Philly prior to the trade and Snead was still embraced by fans (Ironically the #2 pick in the draft) here hoping that he would become something that, looking back he never would. The season following the trade Jurgensen would win us most of us over with his accuracy and toughness in the pocket. That's when real football was played and the QB's were brutalized without penalty. Dude never could run LOL!!! Meanwhile in Philly, Snead quickly found out how brutal their fans could be when not productive. Sonny went on to have a HOF career and Snead while productive was never embraced in Philly.

80 years and one of the true legends of DC football is still around warmed by an embrace that began with a trade known as "The Swap"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEGEND!!!!!

Its hard to believe there was ever a massive debate about Sonny vs Billy, one that makes RGIII vs KC look like nothing at all. The bumper stickers and all that. Sonny was one of the best of all time, Billy could barely throw.

But both of them could put down a beer or twenty in their day.
