Memory question: remember in '86, the Cowboys were trying to sign Herschel ... and there was a funny song, based on "I Want To Be A Cowboy"? Part of it: "I want to run with Tony ... and make me lots of money." I can't find it on the web. Any ideas about where to search?
Anyone ?

Can any of the board cap gurus explain the Tyron Smith restructure in layman's terms?

I didn't see the details of what they did exactly so can't be to specific, but when you convert base salary to a roster bonus of some sort there is generally no change to what the player makes in that particular year from a cash perspective.

Benefit to player: If they converted $10M in 2020 salary to bonus he gets the $10M up front instead of in per game checks and most importantly it is guaranteed. Benefit to team: Whatever amount they convert is then allocated to the cap over up to 5 years instead of just this year. In Tyron's case if he has 3 years left on his deal the team will split it over 3 years (or do a reckless Howie move and split it over nonexistent years and create dead money). So again if they converted $10M and split it over 3 years his cap hit in 2020 goes down $6.67M this year (original $10M pre-restructure, less the revised $3.33M post restructure). Since every dollar needs to hit the cap, this reduction is offset by the additional $3.33M added to both the 2021 and 2022 years. If they don't spend that extra cap space this year it rolls into next year. The downside to the team is the increase to future year's caps and if he is cut or retires they have that dead money to still allocate out to the cap.

So basically it's a way to move cap hit from 2020 to outer years

You can talk all you want about having the #1 offense based on yards last year, but this team needs to do a better job of getting TDs. Not FGs or long drives, but TDs.

I dont think there is any question that Cee Dee is the best receiver drafted by Cowboys since Irvin. Yeah, Dez got lots of hype, but he was never the complete package that Cee Dee is. Cee Dee actually can create separation. If I were Dak I am looking for 88 and Jarwin in red zone. Teams going to focus on Zeke,Amari and Galliup

On a related note we are hearing about a lot more interceptions from our CBs. But who is throwing all of them? Not always 100% good news to hear about turnovers in preseason...

Yep, I've always see good news on a practice plays as equally bad news on the same play.

That was his last play in practice as he was injured on it.
I read he was supposed to be fine. Did something come out that he is injured?

I wonder what we do at safety if Dix doesn't impress and we don't sign ET or any other safety but some of the young CBs step up and create a lot of depth there. I liked Thompson when the Giants drafted him and thought he was OK in limited snaps here and I think we all liked Wilson last preseason. It would seem Robinson and Awuzie would be the ones with the skill set to play some FS in nickel packages. I guess Worley too? Lewis and Brown wouldn't really be fits and no way I move Diggs around if he is a starter of the future. Canady was a guy I wanted to see play it a little but he's out for the year

Seems more and more likely that if the cap goes way down and stays down that Cooper is gone after 2 years. That $20M will go a long way if Gallup and Lamb are as good as most think and we need cap $'s, which we obviously will for Dak, LVE and others. Don't want to write off Coop, but it's obviously best to make sacrifices at positions of strength. I guess the other option is Jaylon. Let's hope we keep hitting on these draft picks and making some smart FA signings to keep ourselves in decent cap shape
