Hopefully Gregory is reinstated. Gregory and Smith are good backups. Then I am sure Jaylon Smith will blitz much more often
we have 9 DE on the roster right now without Gregory and there's also Crawford.

Bradlee Anae
Dorance Armstrong
RonDell Carter
Everson Griffen
Ladarious Hamilton
Joe Jackson
Jalen Jelks
Demarcus Lawrence
Aldon Smith

wonder who besides Griffen, Lawrence & Smith we keep

It will be interesting. I think if Smith still has it then Crawford may play more DT this year. You have Poe and McCoy, but behind them we can use some help. I think Woods is a real good backup NT and I'm glad he is back but we don't know what we have other than that. Woods seemed like a guy that had a good start to a lot of games but maybe tired out and I think his skill set isn't made for Marinelli's attacking one gap scheme. I expect we play more two gap this year and I think that will fit him better. I'm hoping playing 20% or so of snaps will make him much better when on the field. Year after year everyone on here starts looking for immediate contribution from draft picks and although sometimes we do get it, you can't assume it (see Trysten Hill). So I don't assume Gallimore is ready for snaps week 1 even if he does become a player (and I think he will). So I think you have McCoy, Poe, Crawford, Woods and Gallimore all rotating and then Hill hopefully takes that big year 2 jump and gets in the mix as well but I don't expect much from him. If he does there is a lot of depth so maybe Crawford plays more DE.

On your group above I think it's a crap shoot. We heard a lot about Jackson last year until the lights came on. Armstrong certainly is a favorite to make the squad and Jelks looked like maybe more of a chance for a specialty role? A little weak looking to play early downs but maybe with beefier DTs he can find a role. Certainly Anae will be given a chance and if he can show those pass moves from College will get some snaps too. But it's a tough call. What if Gregory is reinstated and the team does keep Crawford at DE. Then how many other guys can we keep? Getting back to your question, I really have no clue. Even what we heard from last year goes out the window to some extent with different coaches and a different scheme. What the new guys will be looking for will be different. Too bad we won't get to see it play out in preseason games. I guess If one of them excels on STs they will certainly give themselves a big chance to make the 53.

I think Anae makes it. Gonna be a nice competition for depth spots

I refuse to let myself believe that Aldon Smith (and Gregory if back) is still a really good, disruptive player because if I do it will certainly get my hopes up for this season...way up...

Not true. I refuse to believe it. He is old, put on too much weight, has been out of the league too long, is out of shape and has a bad attitude and wasn't good his last 2 years

Plain and simple... if he doesn't get in this time he never will. As close to a no-brainer as there is.

isnt he the only player to be on a all decade team & not be in the HOF?

The business side of things can seem heartless. McCoy was immediately cut after being injured which sounds like kicking a guy when he is down but that clause was put in the contract for a reason.

That being said, this is McCoy AFTER he was cut. I hope we bring him back next year. What a class act. This is exactly the type of guy you want on your team and in your locker room

Gerald McCoy says he is still going to mentor Cowboys players in classy statement

I can see Dallas finding a way to compensate him, maybe as a coach. Of course the NFL would look real close at a possible cap violation.
