Still only 32 (in a couple days), but I don't know at this point. Maybe 1 year vet minimum with the chance to make up to $3M through incentives. But, I lean towards him not being worth the downside at this point. You get a pass for being a bad apple when you are a star. Once your level of play starts to drop I say look elsewhere and let someone else sign him

Yep. The shelf life on that product has run its cycle. Better to look elsewhere.

If they can't land Sherman to play safety then I'd take a flyer on Earl at 1 year vet minimum. I'd make it clear the first time he's late or gets in it with another team player, he's back in Orange, Texas standing in front of the 7-11

Damn.

Orange actually has a 7-11. Half the size of my N. Texas residence and we don’t have a 7-11. So jealous.

I agree if you make it clear those are the rules and then are willing to follow through on it as you say (this is where Jerry and McCarthy worry me) it could definitely work out. I just worry we’d let him get away with it and the guys who grew up looking up to him would see his example

I'm very surprised and a little disappointed to read this about Neal. Perhaps this just means he isn't playing at all in the base D. I have to assume in the base D he would be behind Parsons, Jaylon, LVE and perhaps even Cox. Then you have some of the young guys like Bernard too. At SS it would really just be him and Wilson. In the nickel of course he likely moves ahead of Jaylon and LVE. In the nickel I assume it's him, Parsons and Cox all in coverage and blitzing with Parsons even lining up as a DE at times. I think our LBs in the nickel will be significantly better in coverage than last year. Cox may have the potential to be one of the best coverage LBs in the league.

Along these lines Quinn discussed the players the Cowboys drafted (specifically the eight defenders) and obviously was asked about the two linebackers in Micah Parsons and Jabril Cox. Piggy-backing off of that point he was asked about the status of Keanu Neal and whether it would change based on the team’s draft class and he noted that it would not. He specified that Keanu Neal is a linebacker and will be moving forward.

The good news is LVE will now have an All Pro season in what is now his contract year in 2021. The bad news is he will then get a 4 year $60M deal and play out those 4 years as poorly and as injury filled as the last two

I still think when LVE is right, he's a good player. A deteriorating DL, Jaylon getting exposed, crapbag coordinating and his own health have been factors since his rookie season. Hope we get to see what he looks like paired with Parsons and a better DL, knock on wood.

I think everything you've said is true to an extent, but the kid regressed as well. Countless of times he left his feet in the open field and missed tackles he made his rookie year. He clearly got caught up in selling his brand over improving his game. Way too much Jaylon Smith and not enough Sean Lee. It will be interesting to see how he responses to the challenge

The number of “Heath = GOAT” posts on Twitter yesterday were nauseating. Hard pass.
I saw that. It was insane. I never had a problem with Heath on the team. By all accounts a great teammate, competitor, team player, etc. But he just isn't a good enough football player to be starting. Veteran minimum to be a backup and play STs? OK, we need players that are more interested in winning than selling sunglasses or T-shirts. But one of our biggest failures the last decade was continuing to run him out there year after year as one of the worst starters in the league.

Reagarding Heath: Raiders were smart. They drafted his replacement after only one season. Cowboys should have done it after one season ,but he stuck around for 7 seasons SMH.
