Yeah, I think (hope) that Yzerman and company go with linemates and defense pairs in order to have that familiarity factor. I mean, Toews is pretty much a lock, so it makes sense to have Patrick Sharp on the team. Likewise, Duncan Keith is pretty much a shoo-in, so Seabrook as a defensive partner would be a nice fit.

/My three goalies at this time would be Luongo, Price, and Crawford and you ride the hot goalie after the prelim games are complete.

That is a luxury Canada has that the other countries don't, and they could play it to their advantage. I can't imagine them not medalling, but with their back end, gold is far from a sure thing.

There is no question Canada will score goals. That is a ton of offensive talent, forwards and defensemen. Preventing goals could be a problem, though, especially with that many aggressively offensive-minded defensemen and no true shut down goalie.

How does the other team score if they rarely have the puck?

That's how I feel as well. Last time in Vancouver we had a way better goalie in Miller than they did in Luongo, but come overtime it felt like we couldn't even get the puck in their zone. Their dmen are by far the best in the world, not only when it comes to talent but depth as well. I think their dmen are what make them special, no country in the world has the dmen Canada has, not even close.

Personally, I think Sweden, Canada, and USA will be on the podium in Sochi.

Patrick Burke and Tyler Dellow had a pretty snarky back and forth on twitter about the boycott issue
Burke ... anti boycott
Dellow ... pro boycott

Patrick Burke ‏@BurkieYCP 23 Jul .@mc79hockey Maybe we focus on productive work instead of futile symbolic gestures with zero hope of success.

mc79hockey ‏@mc79hockey 23 Jul .@BurkieYCP Boy, it's lucky that the "futile symbolic gestures with zero hope of success" just happen to be the ones requiring sacrifice.

Patrick Burke ‏@BurkieYCP 23 Jul .@mc79hockey The 80 boycott was a tremendous success. Peaceful, tranquil Afghanistan was saved.

I agree with think YCP in that players can do more "damage" to homophobia by making a stance AT THE OLYMPICS ... where the russians & russian govt. can see them

imagine if YCP sign up an Ovechkin or a Malkin to spread the message TO THEIR OWN PEOPLE ... no amount of soviet style propaganda can rub that out of the history books

This might actually be worth having it's own thread.

It's an interesting article because of how absolutely ridiculous it is. That being said I was completely unaware that Russia's government was so "anti-gay".

Leave the politics out of it. It's not like the IOC is against having gay athletes. The games just happen to be in Russia. The NHL and NHLPA have no control over that. Suggesting they should boycott simply because they disagree with a stance the host country has on 1 particular issue is simply being over-dramatic for the sake of being over-dramatic.

If the NHL boycotts the Olympics, Russia will probably win the gold in men's ice hockey. That will teach 'em.

I'd rather have Perry than Getzlaugh - And if baldy bumps Bergy off the team, I'm going to be very upset.

Getzlaf is the big physical play making Center every team wishes they had. Yes, he needs to shoot the puck more. If he was a Flame you would probably feel differently about him.

If he was on the Flames, there's no doubt he would be the No. 1 centre and you're right, I would feel differently about him. I still think with the depth that Canada has down the middle of the ice that he's on the outside looking in for Sochi.

The 47 players invited to the Team Canada orientation camp in Calgary will make $259 in salary this upcoming season.

/Or almost equal to the payroll of the New York Yankees.
