When you compare it to Halls deal its a horrible deal.

How is Riley going to get 5.5mil when Butler is getting close to 7? I think riley is going to want 7-8mil a season. If this is the case we should be extending Kerrrigan and Williams. I rather put the money into those guys then these bums.

Its because of the market. Realistically there about 5-7 sure starters at ILB available in FA right now. That number includes Riley. Im not counting guys you think can start. Im talking guys you know can come in and start and at least be solid.

Here is that list.... Riley, Karlos Dansby (Arizona), Brandon Spikes (New England), Daryl Smith (Baltimore), D’Qwell Jackson (Cleveland).

Now mind you we need TWO starting ILBs as it stands. With a limited supply, and a high demand ( thats five teams right there needing starters and i just listed six guys) Combined with what Butler got and the deals of Lee and Ellerbe last year... no way does Riley not get $5.5 million a year on average. I know many of us around here think he is just average, but even if thats the case... the ILBs available who you know could replace him are limited.

Spikes is considered a two down player seriously lacking in coverage skills. Dansby and Jackson are 2-3 year rentals at best and will cost more than $5.5, and same thing with Smith actually.

Agreed... But also remember that this time last year many around here were calling for Hall to be cut and not brought back under almost any condition. Its all in your perspective. Had we not signed Hall, and given Grimes or Talib the exact same deal Grimes just got, Im sure some around here would be celebrating the move. Just as Im sure if we bring in Byrd, Talib and a few others at the contract rates I suspect they will cost... many around here will be all smiles.

Hall was signed back b/c we couldn't land Talib. Hall was the fall back option and was cheap b/c he was coming off a bad year. We had nothing at CB so we were force to draft Amerson. I believe Amerson was a need pick not the BPA. Also, Hall and Wilson were going to be free agents this year so they needed a Cb. Hence the pick of Amerson.

The bottom line is that we couldn't cut Hall b/c we didn't have anyone else on the roster. The sick thing is that we would of had Talib last year but the cap penalty screwed us.

Hello??? We have NOTHING at ILB right now you do realize. As for Amerson, he was my pick all along and I do think he was one of the best players available when we picked.

But you don't know if we will draft a ILB or Riley could come back. ILb is still up in the air right now.

Swearinger was ranked higher than Amerson as far as BPA available on every draft board known to man. Amerson was selected b/c he was a CB. Need trumped BPA in this case. There is no way Amerson was the BPA at time we picked. No way .

I agree that Amerson was BPA. If he had come out the year prior, he would have been a first rounder.

Dude.. first off even IF we draft an ILB with our second round pick, best case would be to have Riley come back. Two new starting ILBs equals a bad year for the defense. It takes atleast a year or two for a guy to learn to play the ILB position in a 3-4 AND be able to call the defense. How can you not see that bring Riley back is over all better for this team period. Can we find some one to play the position for less, sure we can. Is finding some one to play for less better for the team?? No.

We disagree on Riley just put that topic to bed. I cant believe you guys still think Amerson was the BPA at the time we picked him.

If you look at need last season, S was a bigger need than CB. We maybe had Merriweather coming back from injury and nothing else. We needed a starter and a backup at minimum. We ended up drafting Thomas in the fourth because it was such a need. We already had two starters without Amerson at CB.

Every team has a different draft ranking on BPA. Seldom are the ones you look at accurate.

No CB was the bigger need. Plus we didn't know Thomas was going to be there in the 4th round. They took a huge risk. Swearinger is the better football player.

How was CB the bigger need? We had Hall, Wilson, and Biggers on the roster.

At S, we only had Merriweather and Doughty.

Now explain it. How was CB the bigger need?

b/c they were all going to be FA at the end of the year. They needed some youth very badly. Swearinger is just the better player. everyone's board stated this.

Too this day I cant see how Swearinger wasn't in our top 50 players on the draft board. Amerson was a projected 3rd round pick. He is starting this year. He better step up.

Thats the beauty of player evaluation. Its all opinion based and totally subjective. If draft ranking boards were always 100% or even close to 50%, Tom Brady would have been a day one pick. Russell Wilson would have never slipped to the third. And no way in hel do LFB or Tony Romo go undrafted.

On the flip side, Jamarcus Russell and Ryan Leaf would have never been drafted.

Just goes to show that all it takes is one guys opinion in either direction to make or break a potential player. I think Jery Jones is one of the worst talent guys around but he actually hit in the first round on a guy most of the world thought was no better than a 3rd rounder.

I wasnt. I admit to being a fan of Amerson, but when our pick came I also thought he was one of the best players on the board and figured it was between him and Swearinger

I personally thought we were taking...??? duke williams, lol the S from Nevada...can't remember...he got drafted by buffalo. Amerson was NOT what most of us wanted, but he played very well for a rookie at the CB position. One of the most challenging for a 1st year player with the type of scheme and FS/SS we have. In reality...Crawford or a drafted CB could cover the slot...no need to spend 10 mil on...nevermind

Speak for yourself.

I wanted Amerson, Rambo and Thomas.. but also had a hope for a RT.. cant remember who I was focused on now though. I hit on three, although Rambo disappoints at the moment
