Yes they were picked up off FA but do you really think that RBs on run first teams are going to get hurt again like they did last year? I am a runningback person. I care about my style winning more than just winning.
Your style winning!?!

Wtf

Plotting out what position by round pre draft is a horrible, horrible idea. I hope e'ry team e'r drafted this way finishes last. Should be possible, since there had better not be two teams In any league that draft that way.

Last year Watkins, T Benjamin, Decker, Hurns, Snead, Floyd, that guy in Minnesota were all on FA and had Andrew Luck not been injured and playing with a bad line there would have been Moncrief or Dorsett having a chance to be a FA bargain.

Now in 2014, the FA receivers that contributed were John Brown, Sanu, Robinson(but got hurt), M Bryant. There were less RB options than WRs. In 2013, there was Jeffery, M Jones, TWill, C Patterson, Allen. For RBs, Ellington had his moments, Bernard as well, but Moreno, J Bell, Blount, Stacy were the only major contributors.

If JC, Bell, Forsett, McCoy, Elliot, David Johnson, Ingram, Martin(maybe) are not getting hurt then the other backup options to injuries don't have a bigger opportunity.
Sammy Watkins was on waivers..you do realize the only thing you've proven with that statement is that your league isn't comparable to anyone else's, becuase we dont play with idiots who would drop Sammy Watkins, right? No one that has a clue what they're doing is droping Sammy Watkins becuase he missed the first couple games. You've gotta stop bringing in your little kiddy league as evidence of your theories, just makes you sound silly. The level of competition between what you play, and what virtually everyone else competes in, isn't comparable. And it's not just this one piece of evidence, this is a compilation of numerous things you've said the past couple years

Look, RB is the best position to take round 1. I drafted Ingram, Gore, Gurley last year and took lame chances on Abdullah(was this board dumb on that notion) and Spiller(who if healthy is going to deliver). Only Gurley did anything beyond week 13. Ingram was hurt but his value depended on goal-line defenses. The year before, I drafted Bell, CJ1k, Sankey, Miller, AWill, and Freeman(for trade bargain). Only Bell did anything and Miller once Moreno got hurt. I dropped Miller before the season started thinking Moreno was going to hurt him. However, my RB production was terrible and I was relying on playing matchups more than having a stud which led to me trading Bell(who did nothing major until week 11) to help my receiving(I guess that year I did have some trouble but I lacked a number 2 RB and number 3 WR, I had Bell, Jeffery, Evans. Cooks would have been a third but got hurt). If your first round RB is not playing like one right away(like Bell in 2014) then your second one is needed.

Until Watkins spoke up about needing 10 targets, he was actually getting the production of a FA scrub. I had him in 2014 as part of the Bell trade and he never paid off for me. I was already done when he scored in Oakland.

How is that justification for the need to draft RB in round one? If anything, it's the opposite.

You can't justify taking LeSean McCoy ahead of Antonio Brown. There are elite WR that just produce at a high level. Worthy of the first round.

There is also no wrong answer to drafting any particular player. It's the team as a whole.

You don't, actually you can't draft a player based on "goal line defenses". It's just insanity, especially when talking about a first round player.

In my first round player, I'm looking for a 1500+ yard producer of any kind. Then I play my tier system according to my draft slot.

Everyone has their method. Nobody is "wrong", but there are ways of avoiding mistakes... and passing on consistency at a high level is one big one.

If you just prefer to do it that way fine. But don't criticize the other strategy when it works at least just as well.

A lot of those guys shouldn't be on waivers to start. So basically of the 3 years you listed there were more RBs on the waiver wire than WRs? Not making a great case here. You also have to consider other facts like bust rates of 1st round picks (Whose more reliable - A Brown or L Bell?) and that the RBs you add (S Ware, C West, D Freeman, D Lewis, T Rawls, etc.) can often step in and provide top 10 RB production for a week or two or maybe even longer. You're odds of that happening are not great with WRs because WRs, I find, are more talent dependent in fantasy than they are opportunity dependent. If A Brown or Julio or OBJ go down their replacement has virtually no chance to replicate what they do.

Also, Im not even sure how important the waiver wire is either way. I think its clear, if you know what youre doing you can find startable players at either postion on the waiver wire. If youre lucky maybe youll find a gem or too but for the most part digging through the dregs of the waiver wire to find a starter is not ideal. But really whether you prefer RB or WR how could you think its bad to start AB and AJ Green then come back with Ingram and Dion Lewis? Just like its not bad if you start with Bell and Freeman and then grab Nelson and Tate?

I just dont understand your argument. You have said that WRs win you games in september and october but not in december when it matters and that drafting WRs early is drafting like a 10 year old but have done nothing to defend or support your (ridiculous) statements. You can keep your "big boy" strategy and your awful teams (and apparently awful leagues), Ill take my "10 year old" drafting strategy and my championships thank you.

This is the key point (and this post as a whole is great :thumb:). I may be pro WR but that more means Im not against building my team through WRs than anything else. Im not gonna take Alshon Jeffery over Leveon Bell because I need a WR first. If this guy was arguing he had to go WR first because "thats how you win in December" we'd all be similarly ripping him.

Okay regarding that last statement, I'll say it this way. Teams do not run the ball more until the weather gets colder. Early on, they are passing more. Does that make sense?

Well now there I'd disagree strongly, very few situations are like Bell/DWill, for the most part injuries create 2 and 3 headed RBBC where each is used in such a way that none are reliable fanatasy wise. Decent weekly production from waiver wire RB's is comparatively rare. Maybe 2-4 situations a year where a waiver wire pickup becomes a quality starter, and generally, in a competitive situation, you've gotta be high on the waiver priority to have a shot at getting those guys. Literally dozens where you can get quality, sustainable production from waver wire WR's, and often times you can grab them as few agents without even worrying about the waiver claim priority.

Much much easier to fill a hole at wide out than at RB...BUT, that in no way devalues the elite WR's

Im not sure I buy that. Sure sometimes injury leads to RBBC but not always and when it doesnt you can often get a top 10 or 20 RB on the waiver wire. With WR, injury doesnt lead to the same sort of production. Now I will say if nobody has gotten hurt and you need a bye week starter mid season Id rather be looking for a WR on the waiver wire than a RB. But thats because there a lot of WRs with outside CHANCES at a 3/50/1 TD stat line. But you have no idea who they are. And there might not be any that week. There are NOT dozens of quality, sustainably producing WRs on your average competitive WW. If your relying on WW adds to fill your holes (RB or WR) your most likely in a pretty bad spot.

No because thats narrative not fact. If youre basing your fantasy strategy on that you need to do more research.

And what receivers outside of Watkins and maybe Decker should not have been on FA? I don't think anybody knew what Hurns or Bryant would do prior to their breakouts. John Brown is Arizona's number three receiver, he was not expected to do anything in 2014 prior to the season.

I only bumped this thread to talk about what I am seeing in mock drafts.

So? What does that even mean? How is that helping you find the winners from a whole pile of crap?

Not to mention if youre dropping Sammy Watkins and DJax I dont think youre eye for talent is too good.

Some QBs do rely on their number two option if their number 1 is covered some and it usually takes a few weeks to see that. Which is why Hurns wasn't obvious right away. When I picked up Hurns I also picked up Snead. It's the one or the otehr plan.
