Another outsider view.

I thought the organization made the right move not giving KC the long term deal off such a short sample...yes, I know the price would go up if he had a good season, but I would also have a larger sample to go off. I would have bucked up long term after his franchise season.

Now...The market for Cousins has changed some...HOU and CHI are no longer in the market. JAX is probably turning the corner with Bortles. SF has to be thinking long term with Jimmy G now. DEN can't pay a $100 mil QB without making some big changes.

So...we're probably looking at a FA market of CLE, NYJ, NYG?, AZ...we throw in Case Keenum as a lower cost option and as mentioned Alex Smith....plus the top of the draft.

Denver...has 32 million in 2018cap space. Talib is carrying a cap number of 12 million and Miller is 22 million.

Jax...has only 18 million in 2018 cap space. They free up 19 mil by cutting Blake Bortles.

Those are just the obvious parts.

Wrong, Oscar. Go look at the NFL rosters and check and see where the QB's were drafted. They are a bunch that were drafted in rounds 3-6 that are pretty damn good.

Yeah there are a lot from those rounds, but the odds are you've still got a better chance in the 1st round. Goff and Wentz are the latest examples. Both Mannings. Big Ben from Pittsburgh. Jameis, Cam, Derek, Alex Hill, Aaron Rodgers and Marcus Mariota off the top of my head. The odds are better.

It's not impossible though to get one in the later rounds. Montana, Brady, and Dak come to mind.

So I kinda half agree with you.

The list of failed first round QBs is 2-3 times larger than the list of good to elite first round QBs.

The reason the Brady's, Montana's and such are so rare, is because teams commit so much into these first round QBs that a guy drafted in rounds 2-7 or undrafted rarely gets a shot at being more than a backup barring serious injury to the golden child first rounder in most cases.

Washington is a prime example. Even when the chosen one was determined to be a bust, the front office was adverse to give up on him, and Cousins has to be nearly flawless to be considered OK.

It's a giant crapshoot. But the way the game is played today, you have to have a decent QB. Remember when coaches said, "he doesn't have to win the game, just manage it?" Those days are gone. So everyone has to gamble on a top rated QB. It looks like the QB's will go 1-2 again and Mayfield is now projected in the 1st round and Lamar Jackson also. Then we have Allen from Wyoming, who looks overrated to me.

The Browns better draft a QB or they're complete idiots.

OH I agree, if you dont have a QB you need one. If you have a good QB, you dont use the excuse of not wanting to pay him to enable you to go gamble on a rookie. The Skins would be better served paying Kirk and using that prime draft pick to fix the line (either side of the ball).

But reality says, they will not sign Cousins long term, and will draft a rookie.

Yes I agree. This thing with Cousins can't go on forever. The offensive line was a mess. They couldn't protect him. WR not really great. But is there really any amount of money that will make Kirk happy? He just may not like where he's playing and not much you can do about that.

Bruce needs to swallow his pride, kiss a little Cousins butt and get him signed long term.

The other option is to delve into the QB abyss again and hope for the best while also accepting that we are once again going to ignore other needs while chasing QB elite.

Sign him long term. He's not bad and you certainly can wind up with worse.

Max Kellerman said it best. "Kirk Cousins is not going to win you a Super Bowl, but you can win a Super Bowl with Kirk Cousins."

And again the list of QBs who can win a SB on their own can be counted on one hand. Heck the reason the Saints are doing well now has much more to do w/ the rest of the team than Brees. I would place Big Ben in the same category of not being able to win a SB on his own (heck - he barely did anything in one of their SB wins). They rely much more on their other weapons.

Time to put retire the notion that you need to have a QB who can carry a team in order to win a SB, and Cousins is more than capable of being part of a SB team if the talent is there on the rest of the team (not that far off assuming good health for the team).

Correction, the number of QBs that can win a super bowl all on ther own can be counted on JPP's right hand. :dhd:

The words required for KC to sign here follow from either Allen or Snyder...

“KirKKKKKKKKK, we were wrong and you were right. We apologize for being total dickheads for the last two offseasons. Our actions are inexplicable and we hope you can forgive us. To show you how serious we are, here is a contract that makes you the highest paid QB in the NFL and guarantees three years of salary.”

Kirk Cousins (Turnovers)- Cousins did not commit a single turnover for the first time since Week 11. His career record in games where he does turn it over at least once is 9-23-1 (.288), compared to 16-6 (.727) when he is turnover free. Two of those six losses came in the bitter road defeats against the Chiefs and Saints.

look at this stat and let it sink in , KC literally cant make a mistake for the team to win .

NO QB won a Super Bowl on their own. That is fan BS. Elway couldn't win until he got all the parts to win. The Redskins won with average QBs because they had a good team.

Draft a QB in rounds 3-5 to develop, then sign Alex Smith when the Chiefs release him in the summer…Skins won’t miss a beat in QB production.

I would wager my left, and right nut that this TEAM would be much better with a QB equal to KC’s skill set that actually wants to be a REDSKIN...and that BTW is Alex Smith.

My bad, what I meant was BTW a player like Alex Smith.

Yup. At least he doesn't try and hide it. He's never been on board with KC.

I've always been on board with the Redskins QB.

I'd have to see how the turnover transpired first before making that determination. 2 of those 9 wins in 1 turnover games came against the Eagles last year for instance. Both were pick 6 INTs on Kirk. yet the Skins won each game. First Philly game this year the INT turnover in the red zone was on Kirk. The fumble Flecther Cox returned for a TD in the same game was not on Kirk, but a complete right side OL breakdown with Moses' man forcing the fumble and Schreff's man was Cox.

Last year lots of KC supporters never gave the defense credit when it was due. Sure they were shitty the majority of the time, but 1st NYG game, Cleveland game, 2nd Philly game, Minny game. The defense came up huge near or at the end to close out victories. Yet all the chatter was about Det and Cincy. Det was the defenses fault, but Cincy was a overall team thing.

This year its been reserved it seems. The defense finally made a play in the Ari game, but took breakdown at the worst possible to new heights. With their 2 minutes in 1st half and at the end of games breakdowns.

I will sum it up like this.

Cousins has been consistently good, with spurts of WTF thrown in on occasion.

The defense has been consistently WTF with spurts of good thrown in for the head scratchers.

At least over the past two years that is.
