Great info from Manny. He's one of my favorite follows.

I thought he did a pretty good job projecting/identifying players from the draft that might interest Scot and he had a pretty good track record from last year of players that have done well this season.

I followed him closely last year for my first year following the draft closely, posted a lot info from him and Was pretty impressed over who he really liked that did well this season.

I remember him identifying Wentz very early in the process before he shot up the boards. And that Scots target would likely be the C Ryan Kelly (which I personally believe was the guy)

He also loved Michael Thomas over all WRs because of his footwork (said Scot would likely pass on him cuz he wasn't a sr iirc) and Chris Jones (KC thought he was a dog with a motor)

Good article, basically information that was put forth two years ago when McCloughan was hired. Loves 4 year players, love guys who were team leaders i.e. team captains, loves power 5 conference schools. His greatest strength in the past has been 4th through 6th round plus or minus a round. Willing to trade down to acquire more picks. His first year he traded down several times. We have 9 draft picks this year and expect he will make 11 or 12 picks. He has done well with UDAs too. To evaluate Scot you do not evaluate his 1st round picks but his entire draft.

Anyhow good refresher on Scot, I think we tend to forget and he does have a blueprint. He believes there are certain ingredients in the type of players he looks for as detailed. For all those things listed I believe the draft is still a crap shoot. You have a better chance having a good draft with 12 picks versus 8 or 9 picks. Something this FO did not do for many years. The big guy in NE also likes to have extra picks. I agree with both.

The Packers took a quarterback in nearly every draft? Interesting.

I love that SM has set himself up with additional picks this year, including a 4th.

What SM proved to me that he isn't good at evaluating RB's. This is the deepest RB draft in a long time. Im curious to see how he approaches it. Does Jones really get a 2nd chance? Is Kelley the guy?

I know you love SM skinsdad but that 2015 draft could haunt us for a while. SM FA history has been bad. Now he has 70M to spend in FA lets see if we actually gets some hits.

True but does SM have anything to do with it? The 2015 and 16 winning seasons was b/c of other players. SM is not responsible for KC, Reed, Gracon, or Jackson. By the way in that 2000 draft SM had the choice of Alexander or Trung Candidate. Anyone could of made that pick.

Let us not overlook this....the usual practice among teams is have one they are happy with don't pick one or have one you're not happy with pick one. Basically, just two at a time maybe three without "Wasting" picks on this position every year. Using this method substantially decreases your chances at finding your guy. Increasing that number does the opposite. The problem is that thus far he's using very late picks to do this, Taking a QB in earlier rounds therefore will substantially increase your chances at getting that hit.

Not to mention that developing a 3-6 round QB pick can lead to additional picks in future drafts if the guy pans out.

If you are happy with your yound QB and have other needs, as most every team does, I am not a fan of using mid round draft picks year after your on a quarterback

How many draft picks you have affects this strategy. If your a GM that never stratigizes more picks I'd agree with you.

i believe he will trade down a few times and we net 2 more picks this year and a couple more next year

drafting a qb in the mid to late rounds means you are looking to develop one

sudfeld might not be an answer

Sudfeld is not the answer but they had to have someone. Back to Cali's post I doubt Green Bay had an additional 3rd-6th round picks every year, and even if they did think of the players they passed over year after year who turned out good by spending so many picks on quarterbacks who never played for them (or anyone else).
