And last season was very limited playing time.....but he did average 4.9ypc. And he's just 2 seasons removed from registering 77 receptions. I doubt he's forgot how to catch the ball.

dan marino was a crap qb because he didnt win is that it ? AP , barry sanders didnt have a TEAM built around him like willis did

i will take AP and the wins . they arent mutually exclusive see emmit smith

So what would it have taken to build a team around the RB? Explain how the team was built around Willis.

Teams are built...they are not built around a player.

The comparison is not as easy as you suggest. As others have stated - Willis is not the only reason for the 49ers success. They had tons of other talent on both sides of the ball that allowed everyone to shine. Compare this to AP. The Vikings had some talent but it was not comparable.

One major area of difference between these teams is at the QB position. Granted - the 49ers didn't have Manning or Brady at QB, but Smith & Kaepernick did very pretty damn well during a lot of this time. Check out the list of QBs since AP arrived on the Vikings. The best was an aging Favre and the beginning stages of Bridgewater. Otherwise - the other starting QBs are just outright horrible (a who's who of QBs that other defenses loved to face).

Smith and Kaepernick were made by a defense that was consistently dominant.

How is Kaepernick doing now? Smith is with another dominant defense.

Again - I am not saying that they are elite, but they were effective & at least partially because of their skills. Compare that with some of those absolutely awful QBs that have started on the Vikings since 2007.

But again, you are missing the point. They could be effective because they didn't need to do much. Why? Because of the defensive dominance. Now that the defense is not dominant, Kapernick doesn't even have the job. Alex Smith wasatrocious at the beginning of his career until the defense was dominant. Now, he is on another dominant defense.

From there, you are proving my point that a RB is not important...no matter how good.

OK - doesn't really matter to me. I was just pointing out how atrocious most of the Vikings QBs have been during AP's time with Vikings. Perhaps they are finally going in the rt direction with Bridgewater.

On a separate note - this should give food for thought for Redskins fans regarding Cousins. They need to retain him - at least for a few years - since the list of Vikings awful QBs just shows you where the team could be if they have to start over & a QB taken in the 1st round is absolutely no guarantee.
